Perry for Gionta, Clowe and a 3rd. - soad_live

Sorry, but 8 years for 66 million makes no sense. Those who pay Perry the same are just as crazy. I’m not saying that he won’t get it but I would definitely stay away from those types of contracts if I was a GM. Look around the league and tell me which high priced player is worth their respective contracts, not many! Therefore, it is a gamble that has very little returns. Build a team based on character, presently there are many teams doing well based on character players and not high priced prima-donnas…. |

yeah and i bet the rangers wish they hadnt signed Gomez and Drury to those contracts, and the Habs wish they hadnt got suckered into one of those contracts and blah blah blah
point being despite the precendence set teams will still make the same mistakes over and over, does it seem like the Ducks learnt anything from Gomez's contract? nope
so what makes you sure the Ducks wont just let Perry walk....being 2nd in the league right now gives them no choice and i doubt they would feel as confident going into the playoffs as a legit contender with Kessel vs Perry...so yes it might just go down like last year for Nashville and Jersey
thats just how it goes sometimes, either way its not gonna be as impactful to ANA as it was for the other 2 previously mentioned since Perry is NOT their only superstar (they still have 2-3) (same with Jersey as they had Kovy to fall back on) - Habitants98
You put Gomez and Getzlaf in the same sentence?? Getzlaf is a true #1 Center and Gomez well...Habs deserved him...Gionta ( big monster scoring machine ) wouldnt sign in Montreal without his buddy...Getzlaf easily deserves that money compared to all the other contracts in the league. |

Don't get me wrong, they played real well in the playoffs, but up until that point, that exact lineup excluding Carter, almost wasn't enough to make it into the 8th spot. Before the playoffs, they were looking to get rid of Brown, he's a heart and soul player, but not the most skilled. Doughty has been struggling, yes he had a good playoff run, but overall his seasonal play over the last couple of years has been mediocre for his pay. Kopitar is a great player, but the Kings need more offensive minded wingers, and when you have Richards and Carter as your top 2, I think you can afford trading one for other assets. - ThePresident
Well, I hear what you are saying. But I don't think they were ever thinking of moving Brown. Rumors are just that.. rumors. |

Yes....their core.
Did you see Brown, Kopitar or Doughty play in the playoffs last year?
Who cares if Doughty has taken some time to get up to speed this year, you can't discount how good he was in the playoffs. He was clutch.
Kopitar is one of the best 2 way players in the game. Averaged a point a game in the playoffs last year and was a better player (and still is) than Carter and Richards. He's leading the team in points again this year. He's a +7 while Richards is a -6
Brown was a beast in the playoffs last year. Hitting everyone in sight and averaged a point a game as well.
That trade isn't even close. - Canuckleafer
Amen to what you just said. I don't think he watches too many Kings games, just looks at the stat sheet. |

Getz is not worth max money.
I thought owners were crying poor and had a part to play in this past lockout? |

Would the Red wings ever trade Xavier Oullet? Maybe the oilers would trade them one of their forward prospects... Saying this bc i saw a tweet by NHL Young Guns Daily (@YoungGunsDaily) and they really raved about Oullet and said he was similar to Tobias Enstrom. The Oilers could really use another good D-man...if not Oullet then who could they target? |

It was like Mark Recchi said a month into the lock out; players always get their money and the owners climb over each other to give it to them.

So much for Getz taking a home town discount....
Perry will be offered an identical deal. If he doesnt sign by TDD, then he'll be shipped out. |

One of the best teams in the league is not trading arguably its best player right before playoff time |

If they have a legit shot at winning the Cup, yes. Plus can always get something for negotiating rights, right? |

you wont find many people wanting to take on an 8.25 mill per year contract for that long... - annoyance_101
If it is a sign and trade then someone has agreed to the amount and is getting getzlaf. Anahiem is looking for someone to take something from toronto to fill their needs. Lots of teams here that would fit the bill. I think it would probably be NYI, Edmonton, St. Louis... since Toronto would probably be looking to get rid of a dman like Phaneuf (to get rid of cap space) and a Center since they would be deep in that role if they got Getzlaf. Anahiem in return would want a top 4 dman but a cheap one. A top 6 player or prospects with top 6 potential for the next year or two. Something like Philly did with Richards and Carter. These 3 have the are rumored by TSN and Hockey buzz to be looking for a top 4 dman and could take on a center, plus they all have prospects or top 6 players to part with. Striet, Stewart, Whitney + prospects... to name the obvious starting talks. |

I predict:
Anahiem: Getzlaf
to
Toronto: Phaneuf
Bozak
to
Edmonton: Ryan Whitney
Ales Hemsky
back to Ana
This is the theory on this one. Anahiem couldn't afford what Getzlaf wanted but Toronto could so they approved the price. Anahiem signed with Toronto's guarantee.
Toronto now has extra centers and needs to shed cap so they trade their highest paid dman and not their best and throws in an extra forward who frankly is under performing and is the best center to part with for the future of the team.
Edmonton gets the top 4 dman they haven't been able to land in 2 years but have to pay a huge salary to do it. Plus they get the third line center on a team that rolls all lines with lots of ice time. He would replace Horcoff going forward and probably have hartkinen and Paajarvii on both sides which will be a fast hard hitting line that can play a huge shut down role with dangerous offensive abilities.
Edmonton parts with Ryan Whitney to anahiem who they can sign at a good dollar figure and he can play top 4 minutes there. Plus they trade Ales Hemsky who at 29 is a great fit in Anahiem since they aren't afraid of veterans. Hemsky is Edmontons current goal leader and despite missing getzlaf they remain deep in center. Now if they don't want Getzlaf they might be interested in prospects or their 2nd round pick back from the oil + someone like Smid. Getting their pick allows for offer sheets and that might be of interest to them. |
