back to hockey...

I agree... but Perry is probably going to demand more. They could have Crosby/Malkin money tied up in two forwards who are good, but not Crosby & Malkin.

But they do have Teemu and Koivu money coming off the cap, and if Fasth makes a Hiller move possible, their goaltending will be cheap for a few years.

- rival22

Fasth has been very good but he seems to be getting worse as the season moves along. I think it would be a big problem if they moved Hiller.

Why move Hiller? I agree with you. I'd keep both as long as the salaries are right. Just like St.Louis did with Halak and Elliott

I don't think he's a #1 either. I think Fasth could be, just not yet.

Maybe Neuvy would surprise me if he got the reins but when he's had thst opportunity with the Caps he hasn't performed.

I was going to say its hard to believe the Ducks couldnt get Getzlaf locked up for Eric Staal money. Then I looked up how much money Eric Staal made.....needless to say there's a lot of parallels there. Cornerstone players, but not elite.

rival, I guess they did the right thing. They probably would lose him for this kind of money. He's a keeper and a good C in this league. In "real world" he deserves $7M at most.
- Orpik44

I agree... keeping him and overpaying him a little bit was a better choice than losing him, especially with the prospect of Perry leaving.

This seems to be the first big deal where we see the term limit affect the cap. In years past he could have signed for like 12 years and put the cap hit around $7 mil.

Well, it raises a problem if you count it as a shot on goal. Since the goalie didn't stop it, it doesn't count as a save. It also didn't go in, so it doesn't count as a goal. So you'd have more SOG than saves+goals. That's why a shot on goal is the term, it's a shot that would be a goal were the goalie unable to stop it. A shot that hits a pipe, obviously, beats the goalie, but would not be a goal (unless it deflects into the net). It would be a nice little side stat to keep though.

Just curious but a shot that seems to be going wide of the net an that gets redirected is that considered a shot on goal when it clearly was gonna miss?

I don't want to be a troll, or a "Him no fight, him no score, him useless" caveman guy, but I have a question:

There was talk yesterday about dressing Engelland to deal with Philly's guys.
However, last night, for the 3rd time in the last handful of games vs. Philly, James Neal threw what I deemed a pretty deliberate head shot at a player (twice at Giroux). So Hartnell goes to make him answer. He doesn't jump him; he said something to him as Neal went to the box, and he skated right up to him and dropped the gloves.Neal seemed to want no piece of it, although he did finally drop the gloves when it was apparent he was going whether he wanted to or not.

I guess my question is, isn't that EXACTLY what you'd want Engelland to do if a player had constantly targeted Crosby or Malkin's head? And if the player didn't seem inclined to answer, wouldn't you bash him? I know that Neal's not known as a fighter, and I know that the Pens scored on the PP (although they would give up another 3 straight before the comeback). But to me, I'd just want any player on the Flyers to be ready and willing to defend himself if he has to answer for (what to me seems like) constant targeting of another team's top players. Like I said, not tryign to troll, just interested how you guys see it.

The shot is not credited to the player who took the shot going wide, it is credited to the player who directed the puck into the goal.

I like(d) Regehr... Gunner says he looks bad in Buffalo though. Maybe a move to the Pens would rejuvenate him. Or, we'd end up with a stiff. Good news is, that he probably wouldn't cost more than a draft pick.

Headshot? Come on...

If Giroux takes the bump like a man that's all shoulder. Shouldn't have even been a penalty.

I could see Perry signing with Anaheim in the next 10 days. With Getlzlaf staying he'll have his C to feed him the puck.

Btw, I love Eric Staal's game. He would be really good playing with Crosby. I think he did play with him for a bit in the worlds after the Nash experiment went bad.

i followed nuevy a lot when he came up with the hershey bears and he was a very solid goalie in the ahl and one of the top goalie prospects around. the capitals are not neccesarily known for their stellar defense, and i think he could emerge as a star provided the right team in front of him

A tip in. The shot on goal would be credited to the player that tipped it, the original shooter would get an assist.

No reason to say you're wrong, I just haven't seen it from him at this level. If you were running a team is that a chance you would be willing to take? A season could be derailed mighty fast if it didn't work out.

Haha. In certain cases I do agree, but in Regher's case, he's got nothing left (poor positionally, can no longer skate, etc).

Penguins are in the bottom-third of the NHL in defense, giving up 2.96 goals per game

20th in penalty-killing at 79.4 percent

We do have some things to work on...make this team better.

Amazing how the PK has taken a turn..

well i was just saying if they decided to move hiller, who a possible replacement could be. nuevy is only 24 years old and has never been the go to guy there and played a full season in the cage. most goalies don't mature until their mid 20's and get better with age (flower for example). it took him a few years to get to his game, and that was with playing a good portion of our games. also, nuevy has won 2 championships in the ahl and has played in pressure situations before. if i were in charge, i would be able to take a gamble on him and at worse he could be a solid backup if he doesn't work out as the #1

I hear ya. All I'm saying is if I'm a Ducks fan I'm not comfortable moving Hiller right now and running with Neuvy/Fasth just to open up a little Cap space.

I mean the team is 16-3-3 or something, they probably shouldn't be changing anything.
