To be honest, this run they had means complete poop if they get bounced from the playoffs |

"The thinking is that Despres sits against more physical opponents and plays when the team can use his skating ability. I don’t have as big of a problem with the move as do others"

Hah, nice, some hockey blogger smack.
Bylsma was reportedly the one person in management who fought to keep Despres around in the preseason when the idea was not popular. He's the one who promoted the idea of pairing him with Kris Letang, too, if you'll remember.
Now, I disagree with HCDB as much as the next writer/blogger/fan -- his defense by forecheck is one such short-coming I don't like, but I'll go with his handling and development of Despres, a defenseman with 36 NHL games to his credit. I like the fact he's putting a young defender in positions where he can succeed and gain confidence. Could he be playing more? Sure he could, but I don't think his sporadic play will stunt his long-term development. Despres could even be fresher down the stretch for his first full season of NHL grind.
My point about Despres in the article today was referencing how 55 percent of voters in last month's poll were in favor of shipping Despres to Minny for Setoguchi. Funny how opinions can change so fast. |

Absolutely, but I'm not taking anything from them though. They are playing great up and down the lineup. It is probably better this ended before it really got out of control. Now they can just play hockey and not have this streak everywhere they look. |

That poll was taken over by trolls and Wild fans who knew that deal was a loss for the pens. I don't think anyone here who calls themselves a pens fan thought it was a good deal. |

Even though I always wanted to see what Setoguchi could do in a Pens uniform, I never voted for this trade to happen. I guarantee I wasn't one of "the guys" I was thinking TK+ for Seto |

Well, among those 55% certainly WASN'T me. I have thought Seto has been worthless for the last two years, while I have seen enough from despres in his less than 40 games to know we could have something very solid here. People who voted for the trade were either Wild fans or love Devin's last name for some odd reason.

I said that on the Edmonton board after they drafted Yakupov and I got blasted saying they couldn't turn down a generation player in Yak. I laughed and said you will regret it. Like I said, they can't help themselves ... just like Shero sort of. Ray would draft Jones first overall, while Tambo takes Drouin or McKinnon. - Oneonta Penguin
Come draft time I want Shero to select the best player available at #30. |

Boom John, fantastic post. I don't think his growth is being stunted either, or that the coach is killing his future. I do believe he's earned the right to be playing everyday and he should be. It's time to loosen the shackles, the kid is more than ready. |

I don't think it's great for his confidence but I don't think his growth is affected either. Like you, I feel he's easily in the top 6 on this roster. He's in the top 4 IMO and looked great with Letang.

All players make mistakes, more so for a young defenseman in the NHL. I am not in Dan's head but I'm sure he is doing what he thinks is best to help his team win each night. In this case though I disagree with him. Despres gives us size and skill on the blueline we need. Not just occasionally, nightly. Why hold him back? |

Crosby and Malkin are definately the best 1-2, but id take one of those 3 over sutter. O'reilly had a really good game last night. And I did say MAY be the best. If salary cap was a non issue, I'd love stastny on the team as our 3rd line center. - drummer829
I get what you're saying but I think every gm in the league would take are toP 3 vs colorados. Tho it's a very strong grouP 1 and 2 on our team happen to be the best players in the world. Also wonder how close the total caP hit is or will be next season |

What I can tell you for sure is that Colorado has lots of cap space. They went a little overboard with the $5M cap hit to O'Reilly but should be able to retain all of their big guns. |

Anaheim, alongside Edmonton, are the two teams I look up for after the Penguins. Hope Perry stays put. He would be dumb not to take a similar deal to Getzlaf. |

Bobby Ryan or Corey Perry are as good as gone. It will be Perry. Ryan has a sensible cap hit. |

Perry but I would keep Ryan. There will probably be a 3.5M difference in cap hit. Getzlaf deal was higher than I thought it would be. I thout Getzlaf/Perry would be in the 7.25M range each. Clearly not the case. |
