my dad and i just had that conversation the other day. Larmer played most of his career here but like so many other hawks of the era (Savard, Chelios, Olcyzk, Noonan ) all had to leave to win the cup - waitforawhistle
I've asked the question here and elsewhere and have never received a satisfying answer...
Why did Steve Larmer hold out and force a trade, thereby ending his Iron Man streak of 884 games (11 straight seasons) ? WHY ?
My theory, total speculation, is that Gramps was a 'Keenan guy' and when Darryl Sutter came in as coach, he and Larmer didn't mesh well, despite the fact they were teammates for many years prior.
I'm hoping someone, anyone can please shed some plausible light on what is to me...thee eternal mystery.

So...looks lke JJ's lead of 3-6 weeks for Sharp was pretty accurate based on the reports from TSN and NBC. At least 3, probably 4 weeks. There is no rush to bring him back in 2 weeks. This team literally could have a playoff spot clinched by Easter.
I also had a very nice chuckle last night reading all about the Sharp HATE and Stalberg love...My god. I wont even ask how, but to think a guy who arguably is a worst finisher (Stalberg) has scored all of 20+ goals 1 time, can replace a guy who puts up 30 regularly, is hilarious. Even more so, is the illusion that Stalberg is some defensive wizard. Thsi guy makes as many bad turnovers as Versteeg used to.
Lets all say it together...SHARP WILL NOT BE BOUGHT OUT. Say it again, if you want to. They have 4 legit top 6 forwards on this team, so how do you improve bouncing one, and over paying a complimentary player like Stalberg?

Never buying an NHL jersey until they bring back the straight hem. Love the old CCM jerseys the best. |

Better than Montador at his age and salary. Much better. Rozsival is older and makes more.
Sometimes it's like you guys are in Rocky's will.
- John Jaeckel
If that were the case I wouldn't be losing my mind at work and have to come here to escape for a few minutes.
I will say better than Montador but I am assuming he gets amnestied or concussed again.
Can't help but look long term and project. It is just the way I was taught to run a business. Making money today is great but I need to make money the next 30 years or else I can't retire. One pop then a middling wasteland doesn't help me. Sustainability, responsible growth and a viable plan are usually better options.
A team that may win the Cup for 8-10 years will probably keep the season tickets in demand better than a one and done run. If they have a legitimate chance or are just competitive is a different discussion.
The Bulls have milked that model to a T.
Obviously the Hawks have a good chance to win the Cup this year. Definitely if they are healthy and we will see over the next few nights how they respond to some bumps in the road. It is tough enough to justify anything today and even more so depending on how it would impact next year and the year after. Objectively that is the truth. As a fan maybe not but realistically things look good from the outside in.
Personally, I would like to see a center that can win draws (like a lot) and with Sharp out a forward from Rockford who has some hands (preferably Morin, Pirri or Smith - just to see what is there). Aside from that I don't know where you add significantly without subtracting significantly. |

THANK YOU. Those are garbage and a disgrace to the best logo in sports. People are so stupid. You can't get an "authentic" for 50 dollars...but it has a fighting strap!...nope, still a piece of crap. Anyone in China can easily sew one on - hawks1921
Yep, I paid $250 for a real one at the old Chicago Stadium and that was in 1991! |

I am not a Sharp basher at all. But the one thing that I want to comment on regarding Stalberg is the fact that many knock his lack of finish, but what you get from him is scoring chances most others are not able to get. It is not an apples and apples thing. |

Seems to me Sharp has had many scoring chances this year - both sniping and driving the net - probably as many or more than Stalberg.
Neither are finishing this year, altho Sharp does have a lot of posts. |
