See I somewhat disagree here. I still see the hawks as the same team as last year, and really even the year before that for the most part. Sure they have had an incredible run and it's been fun to watch (but remember last season's 1st place record at the halfway mark). SB still hasn't shown me he can pull off a good trade. The team has been relatively healthy until now. Most odd is that up until tonight no one has played them 'physically' when the book on the hawks the last couple seasons was to hit them hard and hit them often. Hawks are a very good team... but they still have the same holes from last season and if other teams learned anything from watching the Avs tonight the hawks are going to have to better defend their star players. I think they need to address this. It'll be interesting to see how the players (and management) respond to the Sharp injury and this game. I'll be watching. - moylander
I thought the Hawks were the same team through a dozen or so games too, seeing as how most of their roster is intact. But kids that young mature, and do so quickly with the big club. They gell and form chemistry. Add a couple very serviceable 5/6/7d-men to help keep 2 and 7's minutes down and it makes a big difference.
I failed to realize that the past two years the Hawks' top-end talent was overshadowed by special teams mismagement and personel issues which trickled down to take away from their ability to do their things like Keith playing 29 minutes or Toews taking every puck drop and then jumping back over the boards...
When it comes to the obvious like physicality, you don't see anything the scouts don't see. Teams like the Canucks did it for 3 games in the playoffs before the Hawks almost pants'd them in their own building with their speed and you can say the same about every other team the Hawks played so far this year.
One other thing you can say - the Hawks faced every team at their best. The Hawks were not at their best, and they still beat the Aves in SOG on the road with fewer PPs.
Craw had a bad night. His first all year in terms of giving up multiple bad goals. Moving on... |

Ok...Oduya for a 2nd and 3rd round pick...how does that work for ya! BTW tell me one of Holgrems gem trades that has gotten the Flyers over the top!
And on the physical play...not true...many wins during this streak teams pushed the hwks around: nucks, stars, ducks... |

At least OGI and Hurrikane seem to understand what I am saying.... thought I was on an island here.....
Dudes, the HAwks are 21-1-3 . This is awesome.
Just have a problem with our cup necessity players taking cheap shots with no retaliation. - mrpaulish
I hear you buddy. It's not that the Hawks lost, big whoopsie doo, have some pride and knock someone down or at least stop someone from taking elbows and cross checks to the stars. |

That did it...unfortunately.
The streak is dead, long live the streak!
It was fun while it lasted, but now the Hawks can concentrate on hoisting the hardware. |

I'm relieved the streak is dead. If we can go 14-7-3 the rest of the way with no major injuries and picking up some muscle we'll be in good shape...
No more worrying about keeping the streak alive or dreading the media the day after it ends... |

Just what's needed to start another strk.... Edm comes to town owning a 1-4-2 road trip record and just got shutout back-to-back and blown out by the offensively challenged pred 6-0!
Craw coughed one of these up to the preds last year and ooppps...again!

A loss was coming soon. Everyone team we played was loaded for bear in an effort to stop the streak. I dont like that Avs team. Way too much BS play for my taste. Hawks looked tired tonight and who knows how healthy 81 and 65 were. We sure got spoiled.. all those wins. lool.. Good schit. This is a good team and will continue to dominate to finish the year out. |

It's been a while but we're back to reality. We all knew the streak would end and its time to move on. It was a great ride while it lasted but now it's time to worry about something more important - continuing to improve for the playoffs. The boys need to take advantage of any rest they can get and remain confident (they're awesome). Stan needs to continue to explore options to fine tune the roster (ie 4th line centre for PK and face offs).
I have full confidence we'll bounce back on Sunday. |

Trap game!
Great run! Back to hockey I guess now.
Realistic list: Greening, Hendricks, Smithson, Gordon
Wishful thinking list: MacKenzie, Smith, Neil, Thompson
No Chance list: Slater, Clarkson, Bozak, Ott
I'll take any two of the above and Stan probably wants similar guys...some are available, some not, some likely too costly for Stan. But getting Greening and Smithson for some prospects/ maybe a guy like Stalberg?
Glass in the air to the Hawks. Time to see how they bounce back against a quick oil team. |

nice streak - golfingsince
lets start another one.....
over under on hwks regulation losses....anyone??
Oh and this by the Aves blogger tells you alot about this so called up and coming Aves team: "putting together their best, complete 60 minute game they have played in the past four years."
Wow best effort in 4 years...frankly...if that's their best..that team has real problems...but don't worry the 10 million $$ O' Reilly with 39 goals in 3 years is going to get this team going on its winning ways!! |

I think sunday will be a big game. Very telling. Over the last few years the Hawks never seemed to take advantage of teams coming in hurting. In fact they were great for helping teams break their own slumps. I will be very upset if they don't blow out the Oilers. A huge game for Crawford, in my opinion |
