So if Perry goes to UFA, there are rumors he'd be signed for 9M/yr.

If the Flyers do that, could they pay Giroux also when his next contract comes up?

Perry is great but $9M surely screws up the rest of the team.

Could they then trade giroux for a #1 Dman?

I understand moving Couturier to the 4th line because he's been ineffective between Gagne and whomever else, but at the same time, not sure I see how that builds his confidence.

It's a questionable call, and I hope it's not a prelude to a stupid trade, where a kid with potential gets traded because the current coach hasn't got a clue where to use him.

Now that Andy Reid has left Philly I'm not a big "Fire The Coach!" guy, but I'd hope Lavi goes before Couturier.

I'm not a big fire the coach guy, either. But I am big on recognizing when something's not working.

Right it is all on Lavy not knowing what to do with him...couldn't have anything to do with his poor play? Kid gets knocked off the puck, gives up on the play too often and lately throws clearing attempts right up the middle of the defensive zone. Sorry but that is basic hockey 101 stuff that even pee wees are taught!

If they trade Couts it would be on Homer, for good or bad.

Where to play him is Lavi's call.

Him with Talbot as a shut down line worked great last year, especially because they contributed their share of offense.

This year it hasn't worked. Sophomore slump for Couts, Talbot regressing back to his norm, or for whatever reason.

Nope, not all on Laviolette. But I'm more of the mindset that tries putting the kid with talented players and see if that helps. It's not like Briere's earninghis 15 minutes of ice time. At worst, Couturier could be as ineffective as Briere between Schenn and Simmonds.

I think (hope) Lavy will get fired before Couturier is traded.

My one worry with Philly's losing ways is that Management does something stupid and desperate before the end. Look at the Ducks last year. Horrible start, but great team. This year, same players, a little more matured youth and they are 2nd in the league in points. We need to focus on learning, on getting better and maybe for the first time drop some of the win or else pressure.

I think our best chance for the future is to try and make the playoffs but not to trade our Youth & Captains who are slumping a bit. We have the talent, but we need to let them hone the discipline.

I'm of the mind that Lavi shouldn't be making the calls anymore, so you got me there.

If you ever expect Couturier to be more than a defensive shut down guy, steps need to be taken to foster his confidence. Just don't see how a demotion helps that. It's not as if there's a guy playing on the second line that's playing remarkable hockey.

Despite opportunities to move him into a more scoring line role, playing with better players, Laviolette's resisted. And I admit, he's not playing well on the offensive side of the puck. But, the $6.5mm man isn't doing jackpoop, either.

The Flyers from 06-07 to 07-08 were sort of the same way. Tons of growing pains but added some pieces the next year and went to the conference finals.

I am at the point where I would bench Briere in favor of any forward who would play hard the whole game, regardless of who it is.

I'd put Rinaldo over Briere with Schenn and Simmonds right now.

They need to take whatever they can get for Briere, or buy him out this summer and move on.

He can't be effective as wing, and as a center I don't see a future here for him.

Their defense is also much better than the Flyers is, and they have some fairly young to--4 guys (Fowler, Sbisa) to help offset the veterans' cap hits. That's been the Flyers top problem; they keep bandaiding the situation, never actually going for a full rebuild, and because of that, when the cupboard runs bare, you run out of bandaids.

As would I. That's my point, Couturier's struggling, but put him with good talent and maybe he gets an ugly goal or two and he regains confidence....Hell, try him with Jake and Reader. Jake's bouncing pucks off the damned ceiling and in.

If Briere was playing well, or any center ahead of him, I'd be fine with the demotion. But Couturier's not alone.

We should make him a Blue or a Bruin
