More or less, exactly.

Which is why I would be all for hiring a new coach who preaches defensive responsible in all facets of the game in order to tighten up in front of Bryz. If he still plays without confidence and/or with inconsistency than buy him out in 2014.

Seems to be a trend that people on here want to make excuses for Bryz. He just is not playing up to the role flyers brought him in to be especially at his price tag. Good goalies are supposed to make saves when you need him, his play has been average this season minus a few games. You're prettty much getting the same play out of Bryz that you are with Scrivens and Reimer in Toronto and thats the problem. You can blame the defense all you want but above average goaltenders can bail you out. Who on here is comfortable with Bryz on a breakaway or shootout? It is what is boys, Flyers overpaid for Bryz and he isnt what we thought it would be.
- flyerfan28

You are correct. Bryz is not the main problem with this team, and he has played well at times this season. But not better than other goalies who make $2 million.

And now for something completely different.

From the Facebook page of Kevin Smith -

THE BEGINNING OF THE END

20 years ago today, we started shooting CLERKS.
20 years later, with no plan or provocation, I jumped out of bed at 4:20 this morning and started writing CLERKS III.
It's been like hanging out with old friends.
And after 2 hours of tapping the keys and giggling, I have come to a conclusion...
CLERKS III will be the best film I'll ever make.

Nice!

I just don't wanna see happen what happened with LA last year... Everyone keeps preaching Murray, but he's a dinosaur in the NHL today, along with Mike Keenan and those types of coaches. Lavi IS a player's coach, so I don't think the team dis-respects him or that he's "lost" them... I just think with this talent group, his system isn't as effective as it can be, or it has been the past 2 seasons.

LA couldn't even score goals last year and their team on paper was better than ours with better and deeper talent.

A name to consider.... Paul Maurice?

I would like Murray to be the interim coach for the last 20 games this year since he has a good track record with young players. It would help their development a lot. Then hire a new coach in the offseason. I know a lot of people are high on Dallas Eakins, the Toronto Marlies head coach.

Meszy at 4 mill is a steal. Hands down our 2nd best d-man when healthy. Guy is a 20 minute a night, 2 way 30 point d-man.

Please tell me when he is healthy

You do not win with his type of character, all about money for him and is my least favourite flyer, just my opinion.

Make Murray the coach. Treat the rest of this season as an extended training camp for next year. Try to instill good habits in the players starting now. Don't worry about improving for this year, improve for the long term. Keep all the picks and develop depth in the bottom rated farm system in the entire league.

Bryz is what he is, a slightly above average goalie who played on top tier defensive teams for years. The Flyers thought they were bringing in someone who could mask their shortcomings, he can't. His best playoff years were behind a healthy young Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermeyer. 2 number 1 all-world dmen on the same team. Bryz supporters will always have an excuse. First it was not enough games, now it is to many. Maybe like Goldilocks and the 3 bears, next year will be just right. Of course learning how to stop the puck on breakaways and shoots might help. He will never be a goalie who is good at playing the puck either, that's just not who he is. I do agree he is being overplayed this year but think he still would be in this situation even with a better backup due to where the flyers are in the standings.

With that said they need to stick with him and develop youth behind him. They aren't going to get anyone better without giving up significant assets. I would like to see them bring up one of their young goalies and give him some playing time. Snider would never allow that after he went all in to get Bryz in the first place.

Time and patience is going to be the cure. Trying to salvage this year will only set them back.

I think TO wants to keep Dallas if they can. He is one of the hotter names for a coach candidate out there, but I'd prefer if the Flyers tried to get someone who has some NHL experience.

The reason I said Paul Maurice is because he's a young coach who can still relate to the players, and has NHL experience. For some reason, my gut just tells me Murray, albeit great hockey knowledge, would not fit this talen group. I have a feeling that our higher-end skilled guys would not favor his defensive style. Just my opinion on him and based on what I've seen over the years.

If you have read the previous posts regarding Bryzgalov, you will see that we have not been making excuses for him, we have merely been trying rationalize why he may be playing so inconsistently.

You're analysis is far to convenient. Bryz currently seems like a goalie playing with little to no confidence in the team in front of him. When that happens, any goalie will struggle. Bryz is playing within a style that is not giving him a chance to be as effective as he can be.

It sort of reminds me of the Eagles with Nnamdi Asomugha and the Sixers with Andre Iguodala.

Nnamdi was signed to a big contract and then forced to play zone defense when he was the best man-to-man cover corner in the league with Oakland. He was placed in a situation that had a better chance for failure than success.

With Iguodala, he was made to be primarily a scorer for the Sixers when he was much better off being a support player given his great defense (which is why he was included on USA's Olympic). Iggy failed more or less because he was thrust into a system/style in which rendered him less effective than he could have been.

The Flyers invested 9 years and $51 million in a goaltender and placed him in a system that focuses more on offense than defense. Couple that with the coaching staff's lack of ability to teach/implement team defense, and you create the perfect situation for failure, both physically and mentally.

Ah so the fact he isnt in the right system and coaching and as you say playing with little confidence due to his teams play..Lol Ok I stand corrected then no excuses there made

I don't think Meszaros has ever discussed money with the Flyers. They traded for him and picked up his contract.

Correct. I don't even think I've heard talk of a contract extension. This one seems way out of left field.

The best part of last night's game? Watching Fleury fumble. Man do we light that guy up. I almost feel bad for him.

Explain to me why Rinaldo was one of the best players on the ice? The kid's great, don't get me wrong but he's a 4th line energy guy. If he's the only one who shows up we got problems.

I felt Read came back a game or two early. His normal push just wasnt there. Our D seemed listless and I've begun calling Briere a ragdoll cuz you throw him on the ice and he gets tossed around like one (and I adore him!)

Can I just say that Neal needs to not be headhunting G anymore? I was so proud of Hartnell! I didn't like the unsportsmanlike call but it was worth it for Neal. One of the ONLY times I'll say that. Even before the game I was hoping for an avoidance of stupid hits to hurt players and I was thinking of Neal headhunting on us... And Damn if he didn't prove me right...

The only reason he decided to tear his Achillies and come back far sooner than expect and play far better than expected is because of money! Also, he only wants to collect paychecks and not play so he separated his shoulder!

I appreciate what Hartnell was trying to do, but his timing was terrible. Should've waited until after a play instead of handing them a powerplay immediately after our goal.

Glad to hear you come clean here, Bill. They're just not that good of a team. It's frustrating to look @ individuals skill sets & then see the colletive group not come close to living up to them. Part of that responsibility lies with the coaching staff.

I think you have to address that immediately. As soon as Neal comes out of the box, you say, "that's not acceptable." I don't think Hartnell got the unsportsmanlike call for approaching Neal to have a word with him...it may have been a couple of words he had for the linesmen who were trying to keep them apart.
