The only positive is they realized retooling wasn't going to get it done and opted for the complete rebuild.

You're using some pretty good hindsight here. First off, a lot of people wanted Tallon to draft Turris or even Van Riemsdyk with the first overall that year. Kane was the right choice, and it's easy to see now, but at the time, there were A LOT of people who thought Tallon should have taken one of the other two guys.
The Campbell contract IS ridiculous, that I'll give you, but he was a big part of the Stanley Cup team, and I understand the reasons for Tallon bringing him along to Florida.
So you're saying that Tallon's time in Chicago is all about Toews and Kane? Tallon also drafted Bolland, Kruger, Hjalmarsson, and many others. He also signed Marian Hossa, and absolutely FLEECED the Flyers in the Patrick Sharp trade. He is the guy who built the Blackhawks Stanley Cup team.
His tenure with the Blackhawks is a lot more than Kane and Toews.
