MacKinnon or Jones?

NOOOOOOOOOOO.

prease no.

We'll beat COL and CHI to stay 5/6 points back.

This is awful. We didn't ask for much this year. A little light. An important game in April, despite whatever master psychoanalysis Krueger may gain from a loss in the lean years.

Not ready to throw him under yet but I am starting to wonder, it looks like they're protecting a lead down 2 nothing.

Getting shut out two games in a row is not good...this should be the line for zero tolerance now.

Not much Tambo can do,maybe the only.thing he can do is replace the coach, but he wont be able to trade the vets maybe just Hemsky.

So who should the Oil target?

Bernier?
Lehner?
Miller or Enroth?
Hiller?
Allen or Elliott?
Backstrom?

I can't find the quote from the guy that says that this thread is about the oilers trading for the same calibre of guys and a better goalie and expecting to improve.

I think I am just cool with the better goalie at this point. I stand by my statement before the season started. Gagner is going to surprise people, Hemsky is good till he gets injured and Duby is no starter. Also lowe and Tamb know nothing about building and managing a hockey club.

- bsteinley

That was me. I'm not against improving goaltending.

I'm saying that mostly we need to stop kidding ourselves that it's the culture of defeat, or an adjustment period, or a leadership problem that's causing us to lose so much. Those things may be true, but that all pales in comparison to the simple fact that our roster is not good enough. Our d core is no where near good enough. All this talk about fixing anything other than our level of talent feels like a cop-out to me, that allows Tambs to sit around year-in and year-our and rationalize not changing anything.

I think the Ben Bishop might be a good target or Bernier.

I don't know if we need two 4 mil goalies. I think if we are looking for a temp fix, we take elliot from st louis. They are looking for a run and Elliot has done nothing for them this year. However last year he had 9 SO and he is only 1.5 mil with 1 year left and I think he is 30. So he could back us up next year as well for a cheap price. Plus St. Louis has 3 goalies signed but might take Habby for the run for more security in case Halak gets shaky. They might do straight across since I don't think they have plans on keeping Elliot with his current stats.

However long term I would look at backstrom, Lou, Bishop, bernier, Hiller or Mike Smith.

you can easily see that this Oilers team is not responding to the New Coach Unknow system.

Proven starting goalie and big minutes d-man.... both signed long term for a reasonable cap hit.

I haven't seen enough of Pavelec to know whether he can be an impact guy. He seems no less prone to getting shelled than Dubby, he just plays more.

I'd love to add a guy like Enstrom, but it would be tough to trade Yakupov. As a fan I say go for the shakeup but as a GM I'd have Tambellini-balls and probably balk.

I saw a twitter rumor about a Hemsky for Bishop swap... I think it might be a bit of a over payment.

Blow it up. I'm not paying any more attention to this team until I hear that there is a new captain, a new goalie, and THREE top six players along with a decent "truculent" bottom 6.

I think if I met the Oiler's top 6 in a dark alley....I'd leave with 6 wallets and a bit of their pee on my boots. These guys need a new address in a hurry.

I've seen enough of Pavelec. He doesn't solve the problem for you. He gets shelled many times.

You have to wonder wtf Katz is thinking. How many years before there is progress? This is brutal. The so called "brain trust" is dead. He has to clean house from the top down. This is pathetic. Ron Low did much better with a $2 budget and a 60 cent Canadian dollar. His teams worked their tails off and he got maximum output from them. Ironically Lowe was his assistant and its been all down hill other than that blip in 2006 when the Oilers squeaked into the playoffs when Vancouver lost the last 2 games of the year and allowed us in.

It's not an overpayment at all. Bishop can be a starting goalie in this league. He is certainly better than what you have. The cost, an enigmatic, overpaid Euro.

After seeing Pavlec's numbers, I would opt for the Hemsky Bishop swap and move Yak back to the right wing.

The problem for us is defense.

Can you name any other team in the league who goes one game - let alone several - without a slap-shot from the point getting on net and creating a rebound?

How about any other in the league who goes a game without a dman carrying the puck through the neutral zone?

There is no credible threat to create offense on a consistent basis except when Hall, Gagner, and occasionally Hemsky touches the puck. We're all too easy to key on without a dynamic defender or two
