I love how every game it's blame it on the grinders and now it's the grinders and te ref's. The Oilers can't score unless they're on the PP, you suck, deal with it. A junior team can't beat an NHL team. Schultz is not Bobby Orr, he's a rookie. Yakupov is not the savior in his rookie year. This team is still rebuilding, they're going to suck.

The Oil have boatloads of talent up front and someone needs to go to bring in assets to even the balance and it's got to be one of the one million untouchables that Edmonton apparently has.

The scariest thing about this picture is that's the L&R real doll the kid is playing with. I suggested they make it look a little older but they insisted their market research was flawless.

I was an Oiler season ticket holder for 5 years prior to moving to Victoria last year and although not an Oiler fan it is very disturbing to see how little progress this team has made over the past couple of years. Yes they do have some great potential with their top 4 or 5 forwards and Justin Schultz but that is where it ends. If you look at the best teams they not only have excellent top 6 forwards but they have great role players in their bottom 6 as well. Oilers management has failed miserably in addressing this need. Don,t think for a minute just because the Oil have drafted 1st for three straight years and seem to have drafted fairly well in the other rounds that this is the route to the Cup. Most Oiler fans over value their players , especially Hemsky and this team will never win until house is cleaned of Horcoff , Hemsky and most of their bottom 6. And to think that players like Klefbaum and other guys who have not even played a game in the NHL are untouchable is crazy. As much as I do love the city of Edmonton , MOST NHL hockey players still view the city as an undesirable place to live.

Ya. So much for him taking a discount to stay there. This likely means either Perry is done there or Ryan will be traded? Cant see them keeping them all.
- Iggysbff

I would assume if you are shelling out that money for that long it would be because the Perry talks broke down. He will want the same and at just over 60 million next year for a salary cap you can't have two people taking up 17 of it. I would think Perry is going to be shipped. Ryan could go but his cap hit is a lot less and he wouldn't get you as much in return. Problem with Perry though, any team that signs him has to know he expects Getzlaf dollars. With the new CBA, Getzlaf took ANA to the cleaners. Teams just can't keep signing players above 6 mil for long term and expect to have more than 3 of them on their team.

Bernier is worse than Duby.

- Iggysbff

Bernier is no Quick but at 24, with no real starting experience I would have to say that Bernier is the correct gamble. I think he is better than Duby now (did you see that first goal last night?) Nothing wrong with Bishop but he is older and he has been putting okay numbers up on a team that plays a defensive game. Bernier has been doing the same on a team with consistent injuries to their dmen this year.

The Oilers Pre Salo were always defined by having a strong goalie and that is when we started our decline. I think we need to get back to that. These are both good and they might turn out by why not try for something big. Why not go after Backstrom or Luogo. I know that Van and Edm are in the same conference but Vancouver NEEDS to get rid of him and they need to get a return. Edmonton can just give them the best offer and they won't be able to turn it down. Divisional trades are done as long as the price is right for both sides.

Lets put it this way, duby is not top 25 in the league in terms of goal tending when you think some teams have backups better than him. Luo can be argued as top 5. We pay Duby 4 mil a year. Luo is a cap hit of 5.3. 1.3 mil cap hit more and you get a goalie that is at least top 10 and locked in.

Backstrom is different as we might be able to get him as a UFA. If not at least go for a 1B goalie in Mike Smith from PHO. The 30 year old will be a UFA after this year. Or gamble on SO leader from last year Brian Elliot. He has had a terrible year this year and St Louis has 3 goalies, 1.8 mil cap hit for 1 more year is a fair gamble for a back up.

The big thing I've learned from this thread is that the Oilers will go from the basement to the top of the league not by getting better players, but by replacing their bad players with equally bad players that are better leaders, and getting a star goalie.

Seems legit.

Yeah I am sure he figured 24 games into the year the Oil would be on top of the league and there would be unicorns and rainbows and sh!te too.

Sure, he's a college guy. He can't have been stupid enough to believe that the Oilers were going to be great from the get-go can he? He's playing at a 46 point pace as a rookie on a bad oilers team. If the team improves, not only will he still get points on every single power play goal we score, but he'll also rack up some 5 on 5.

If he is having second thoughts, at least he's gotta be happy that in Edmonton he can pad his stats for a pay day.

We all do not live in the fantasy world he does. The kid is getting the ice time and chance to play that he wanted too. I am sure he is fine with his decision.

Brown's 2-0. That one was close, but mostly because Clune is a Stortini clone.

He seems like he's having a time getting his see legs back. Actually his legs are fine, it's more his touch.
