Is it just me...or do teams not like to trade away players much anymore. You dont really see a large amount of trades which involve bigger named players, or ones who are still at the prime of their career...teams have been playing it quite safe in recent years.

Agreed! I think it's pure fear that the return won't match up to the player himself.

Or some of the other players (Perry, Ryan, etc) will be pissed and know they're on the way out.

Exactly what I was thinking and was just about to write.

I read this on TSN, a quote from Dean Lombardi that the market might be slower this season due to some changing trends.

"What's happened the last five or six years is teams realizing that even if they're a seller, they realize it's not like the old days where you trade [a UFA to be] for a draft pick and easily replace them [in the offseason]," Kings GM Dean Lombardi said. "Even midrange players, many teams are now deciding to keep them and try to sign them versus giving them away for a second- or third-round pick. That's something that's changed in this business since I got in it; very different. Some teams are looking at that No. 4 or No. 5 defenseman and saying, 'I'm not replacing him this summer, I need to keep him and sign him.'"

Exactly...its odd. Few deals here and there but most teams would rather keep their guys and hope for the best rather than possibly getting shelled in the trade market.

I would imagine, given their current success that they either DONT move him, or move him for added immediate depth. He's a large part of their current success and if moved, they would have a serious hole to fill. A few immediate roster players who can provide an impact with respec to 2nd/3rd line scoring would be needed.

Given their success this year, I just can't imagine them moving Perry and instead trying aquire players that will help them win this year. Then try to move Perry at the draft, or prior to, for a couple of picks. That's why I'm stuck on this Cammi trade scenario that I posted. Cammi helps them go for it this year and covers a top 6 scoring position next year should Perry leave. All we need in return is 1 of your solid prospects and your 1st.

Thn that would lead me to the conclusion that there will be even fewer sellers than what there should be. Then that leads one to conclude that possibility of overpayments are even more likely to occur if we were to say put Iggy & JBO or Gio & Cammi out for tender. All the more reason Feaster get off his freaking butt and start sending flyers out about the red light sale at the Dome!!!!!

Not a chance, I was just looking at CapGeek, and both Koivu and Selanne are off the books next year, combined 8 million. They can put some of that money into Perry, and done with room to spare.

Yes, but they cant just (not) sign two new guys in those spots? Their offense will need to be replaced, even if they do stick around, and they have a few younger guys moving up that will needed extended contracts. They will have some budgeting to do, thats for sure.

Sure, but does Perry want to stay? And do he and his agent think he is worth less than than Getzlaf? I agree with those that think he may want around 8.5-9mil

I suspect at least one of Koivu or Selanne retires this year. If they were to win the cup, they probably both retire.

That's why it would be such a tough decision to make if they are aware that Perry will not be back (and I suspect they have a good read on that already). Make trades that help them win this year but likely cost them prospects that will fill in for the retirees. I think when you have a chance, a real chance to win the cup, you HAVE to go all in.

They have enough good prospects, they can part with 1 or 2 and still be in a solid spot for the future.

You know, maybe this Getzlaf contract is going to decide the fates of Selanne and Koivu. They may be forced to retire or move to another team (not likely). Perhaps ANA is serving notice that those spots will go to Etem and Smith-Pelley next year.

I can say nice work on not nodding Getzlaf. There is no way he goes to Calgary.
So- with your proposal, I like, but would prefer it to be a 2014 2nd. As it stands, Perry is not a substantial improvement on Cammi. Dude is lights out.

I would like a different move just a bit. How about JBo and Stepniak and a 1st for Perry and Lydman (UFA)? Assuming we get a re-sign from Perry?

- FLflames34

Wow...Youre on a roll today. This, plus your Hall + for Miller and Regehr?

Dude. Stop with the comparisons and trade proposals. You just are so far off base...

Just wondering what he did to himself last game when he hit that guy. He looked to be in some pain.

Only the CRB already are ya???

Ya I don't know, he looked messed up coming off the ice holding his groin area. But I saw him a few minutes later back out there. Maybe a cramp or something? I think he's ok, haven't heard anything anyway.
