I know its way early to talk about this stuff...but no doubt Bowman has to be thinking about it. So here we go again.

The Hawks have $4 mil in cap space next year.
Kruger (RFA): est he eats 2-2.5 of that
Leddy (RFA): est he also eats 2-2.5 of that.
Now you have Bicks, Stahls, Emery, Rosival, Mayers are UFA's
Mayers is gone. Emery will attract interest for sure as will Stahls. Bicks I suspect the Hawks will keep...can't afford to lose another big body.

The math says Olez and Monty are prime amnesty buyouts for about $6 mil plus. Only way you have a shot of keeping the a couple of the UFA's or add salary.

The prime buyout candidate is a certain forward who is turning 32 this year and is penciled in @ 5.9m cap hit wise till then 2016/17 season.

If we're talking veteran 4th line "center" with some size who can win faceoffs, why not ask Dale Tallon about Jerred Smithson?

6'3" 209 lbs
veteran of 600+ NHL Games
55% at the dot for a terrible Florida team
Has taken 3rd most draws for that team (230)
36 playoff games under his belt
800k salary, UFA after this season
Acquired from Nashville last year for a 6th round pick

- prd797

He could be a good option, he's also 2nd amongst Florida forwards in PK TOI.

I've seen the rumors about Fleishmann too, from a hockey perspective it makes sense but it won't happen because of his cap hit ($4.5 million). I'd rather re-sign Stalberg for $3.0 million. But what about Peter Mueller, he could be a cheap option for the bottom 6.

Hendricks, Beagle and Perreault have great numbers at the dot this year. Hendricks and Beagle would be great for Bottom 6 depth and grit (everything you mentioned. Both are PK staples for Washington.

Perreault I liked because he has a scoring touch and can play on the PP. He reportedly asked for a trade out of Washington earlier this year. Only negative is that he is on the small side (5'10" 185). Admittedly not sure what kind of return the Caps would want for the guy though (maybe prospects and/or picks?)

- prd797

Keep Perreault, we have no trouble with perimeter guys on PP.

Matt Hendricks is the guy, I am telling you guys. You heard it here first.

Shooter? Maybe in your mind but not the hawk organi-za-tion. Ah no way....the hawks are absolutely in luv with him and Hossa. Niether of these guys are serious buyout candidates. Sharp is still productive despite his lower production in goals so far...and man has he had some glorious chances!

yea... sure looks like you could use a couple upgrades
- SpoiledByOil

It's a matter of getting a little better at present, this team needs to win now, and can improve by that thin margin which helps you win in playoffs, that you must have if you wish to win. If we could acquire just a little more pysicality at little current expense to the winning formula, then it only makes sense.

Mueller would be a good option for that second line, young guy with playmaking ability and scoring touch, although I am worried about his already well-documented injury history. Guy is also an enigma and disappears for long stretches (when healthy). Cap hit for this season is no bad at all though and he is an RFA this summer.

It's not a question of paying him the same as our young RFAs. Stalberg will be offered likely 3 million per if not more by teams with more cap space who like his skillset. He is the one likely to try to chase a paycheck while he's got near-maximum value on the market.

Montador has a say in that with his partial NTC. That's going to be a problem in the idea of moving Montador.
- EKolb13

How does NMC work with waivers. For example, Hawks waive Monty (not saying it will happen), and Sens claim him. Is the NMC null and void since he was not traded there?

You have to hand it to renegade GM's who get delusional for a moment like Feaster and sign O'Reilly to a 10 mil/2 yr contract forcing the Aves hand.

That signing is going to be used by agents/players as a basis for contracts next year.

If Stahls continues with his play and Hwks go far in a playoff run with him contributing he could easily have someone throw a 10 mil/3 yr contract at him!

I want some of what you're smoking if you think he's really the "prime candidate" in the minds of management.

The only prime candidates are often injured and or play a lot in Rockford. Rusty and Monty would be the only option.

Let's see how the Hawks do without him before you start the personal attacks.

Sharp won't be going any where, let alone bought out. He is a hockey clubs dream player. The guy isn't even the best player on this team and look at his jersey sales.

So Sharp is out. Yaaaawwwwwwnn. He's easily the most replaceable member of the $5.0+ club. Better him than 19, 88, 81, 2, or 7. Hopefully he'll be ready the next time the Hawks desperately need to hit a post.

I feel bad for the guy but . . . just sayin' . . . if Q puts him in as 4th line forward and I'm the opposition . . . I'm going to try to run the guy down 1st chance I get.

Hopefully that will be the case and we'll get this over with quickly. Pretty evident that Montador, like Brunette, should never have been signed, much less to a multi-yr 2.75M contract with a NMC.

Probably Stanley's biggest bust. Who on this board thinks Montador can come back after not having played last year (OK, he played 5 games . . . should that count?) and not having even been cleared to play until just now and think he even SHOULD be in the lineup????

Send this mope to Rockford for the remainder of the year to get in game shape. And buy him out after the parade in June. Do not inscribe his name on the Cup.

Yes, my disdain for Montador grows with each new announcement on him on a daily basis.
