Thinking about the elbow by Statsny, it is time the Blackhawks get a little 'dirty'. They have enough of a cushion in the division. They should go out of their way to make Matt Duchene or Gabriel Landeskog pay. - powerenforcer
Make the guy that did it, Stastny, pay. Do you want the Oilers to make Toews or Kane 'pay' for what Cacillo did last year?

Why go after one of them? Did they do anything? If Stastny threw a dirty elbow go after HIM.
Would it not send a bigger message? "Hurt our player, you get hurt."
If we're talking veteran 4th line "center" with some size who can win faceoffs, why not ask Dale Tallon about Jerred Smithson?
6'3" 209 lbs
veteran of 600+ NHL Games
55% at the dot for a terrible Florida team
Has taken 3rd most draws for that team (230)
36 playoff games under his belt
800k salary, UFA after this season
Acquired from Nashville last year for a 6th round pick
Pretty sure 67 and 81 are fine. Not aware of Shaw having any concussion history (anyone who follows the OHL?). For some reason, he strikes me as the kind of guy who eats concussions for breakfast.
10 is a legit concern. - John Jaeckel
Never heard a peep about Shaw having a concussion history in the O....hope he's ok and ditto the Glue Guy Sharpie
Montador has a say in that with his partial NTC. That's going to be a problem in the idea of moving Montador. - EKolb13
Monty is untradeabl anyway given his health history...hwks need to find out if he can play or if his concussion issues are now chronic....he is prime amnesty buy out candidate
Depends on what else they do with expiring contracts, especially Rosival and Stalberg.
It's way too early to talk next years $3M Ott salary when focusing on a cup this June. - blackhawk24
Win the cup first, then deal with next year's cap issues. They did it in 2010 and I'd be content to watch them do it again, and suffer through 2 more mediocre seasons, to watch second parade down Michigan Ave in June. Ott would be an ideal add.

I see it this way - as a player you need to understand what is happening around you. If a teammate is taking runs at other players, you better have your head up. What better way to pay for a goon than to try to make pain for that teams best player? It hurts Colorado more to be without Duchene or Landeskog for a few shirtf/periods than Stastny, doesn't it?
And to answer you question, if the Oilers were to do that, I would think Toews understands that part of the game. He's wearing the same jersey as anyone else on the team.

I know its way early to talk about this stuff...but no doubt Bowman has to be thinking about it. So here we go again.
The Hawks have $4 mil in cap space next year.
Kruger (RFA): est he eats 2-2.5 of that
Leddy (RFA): est he also eats 2-2.5 of that.
Now you have Bicks, Stahls, Emery, Rosival, Mayers are UFA's
Mayers is gone. Emery will attract interest for sure as will Stahls. Bicks I suspect the Hawks will keep...can't afford to lose another big body.
The math says Olez and Monty are prime amnesty buyouts for about $6 mil plus. Only way you have a shot of keeping the a couple of the UFA's or add salary.

Seems to me that Stastny knew and was upset Shaw was there. You don't just randomly bring up your elbow after dumping the puck in. Shaw goes low to finish his check, Stastny throws the elbow high.
If Shaw has his chance to return quickly he'll likely take a few runs at Stastny in one of the next two outings vs Colorado.

Bring Bollig back up to beat the sh!t out of him.....after the 'Hawks are up by 3 late.

Don't care about next season. I care about this season. It's not like they'd be at another cap-ocalypse.
Grit, great speed, great in shoot out. will fight...kill penalties. Perfect bottom 6 guy. - TrueGrit
Hendricks, Beagle and Perreault have great numbers at the dot this year. Hendricks and Beagle would be great for Bottom 6 depth and grit (everything you mentioned. Both are PK staples for Washington.
Perreault I liked because he has a scoring touch and can play on the PP. He reportedly asked for a trade out of Washington earlier this year. Only negative is that he is on the small side (5'10" 185). Admittedly not sure what kind of return the Caps would want for the guy though (maybe prospects and/or picks?)

The prime buyout candidate is a certain forward who is turning 32 this year and is penciled in @ 5.9m cap hit wise till then 2016/17 season.
