The way Sharp was holding his arm as he was skating off, man, that did not look good.
- Lido_Shuffle

Re Sharp, I say broken collarbone -- for several reasons.

* most forwards I know HATE wearing shoulder pads. Now you know that everyone HAS to wear them (I have played in leagues where they never enforced this rule, stupid IMO). I can pretty much guarantee that Sharp's version of shoulder pads provide very little real protection from that type of hit or any other big impact.

* Sharpie was pretty much perpendicular to the glass, so when he went into the boards, his should was 1st point of contact. With no big shoulder cap, it was pretty much like going in without any pads on at all.

I've taken an open-ice hit just like that -- perpendicular to the defenseman -- and broke my collarbone. I have the calcified knot that resulted when the 2 parts healed back together to still remind me.

Sharp will be unable to play for at least 1 1/2 to 2 mos IMO -- however, the only thing he DOES have going for him is modern medical technology.

There's a product out there called EXOGEN by Smith & Nephew (a medical device co) -- that has come up with an ultrasonic device for bone breaks like this. There is a clavicle strap that can be draped over the shoulder with each end having a transducer that sends an ultrasonic signal through the body (basically from a sender to receiver/front-back type of deal). The ultrasonic waves are able to penetrate flesh deeply and stimulate blood flow (ok, not fair thinking what sharp might use this for!) which will promote faster healing.

This same device BTW was used by Lance Armstrong to come back from his clavicle break -- and at the time, people were amazed he was able to come back and ride so soon after it happened.

So, maybe Sharpie could see action in 4 to 5 weeks.
Let's hope so -- but I would not be surprised if it was closer to 6 to 8 weeks.

And the uncalled offsides when the Avs scored their 2nd goal.

that would be expecting the Avs fans to be impartial and see the game without bias...

Ummmmmm this is nutzo

Emery, though he looked kind of out of position at times, is pretty much a warrior. Good for him. I posted this story before. Really good read.

http://aol.sportingnews.c...-ducks-avascular-necrosis

Still don't like Carcillo but glad the Hawks won and that was a great play by Kruger to get puck to net. Stalberg was all over the place at the end of that game. Really nice effort level from him.

Saad another helper. It is turning into bizarro world.

Good thing there is all that "NHL close to ready depth" in Rockford. Hopefully that is a true statement to get though the next few games. I would like to see Morin get a shot and Ben Smith fill in ideally.

And 8 defenders on the roster? What do you even do with that?

I was surprised that the linesman helped Sharp to the bench, but didn't envoke hos power to suggest a call for his hit to the head.Yeah, Shaw looked loopy a several shifts after the dirty play by Stastny.

I am sure eventually Shaw evens that up at later time or some one rights that one on Friday...I really thought it was uncalled for one.
Andrew Shaw gets froggy with lots of wall work, and some is bordrline, but even his hit on Phoenix goalie Smith didn't seem as bad as Stastny's.

The important thing now is to just get these guys healthy...

...and think it will be Montador on the wing on Friday...

- wiz1901

Why should he have? Sharp was hit shoulder on shoulder with a clean check.

"So basically, you have a vacancy on the fourth line (and in the press box), which could (and likely will) be filled by pick an Ice Hog: Bollig or Jimmy Hayes, Ben Smith or Jeremy Morin."

JJ, speaking of Morin, how's he been doing this year? I thought he showed some great stuff in '10 before getting concussed. Do you think he has a real shot at getting called up now, or will ben get the call?

Good for Gorilla Salad. He had a really good game ( although you could see he held back a little with some of his hits. Didn't do his usual Hell-bent-for-leather routine that he does on 4th line duty...) Kruger was truly the hero on that play, but there should be reward for driving to the net and Carcillo got his.

I personally would like to see Morin, Smith or Pirri up for a game or two. I guess it's pending on how long Shaw is out.

Roszival's lack of speed hurt him last night. Might be a good time to play Brookbank for a game or two. Roszival is 38... And you want him as fresh as possible when the playoffs start. The good news is that two of the three teams that can skate like the wind ( Edmonton and Colorado) are currently on the outside looking in on the playoffs.

Razor hasn't been at his best the last couple of games. But he sure as hell does battle.

I'm cool with bringing up a few of the Hogs for the time being to replace some of the injured guys. Give those guys as much time off as they need. Everybody needs to be healthy for May and June, that's when it really counts.

I'm not JJ, but here are a few notes:

19 Goals / 18 Assists and a -3 in 51 games in Rockford. Also has 62 PIMS. Had a bit of a nasty streak when I saw him play last year. Credited w/2 scraps on hockeyfights.com, the only video available has him getting his lunch handed to him.

Roszival is 34 I think but agree with that he plays 1 out of two this weekend. I don't think his lack of speed hurts him terribly but he does need to be kept as fresh as possible. Fresh like spring water fed roses on a cool sunny slightly breezy but warm enough day.

They will have to work Montador in at some point as well. Probably as power play wild card so he can get railed again and go back on the IR and stop complicating the roster (*sarcasm*).

Awesome accomplishment by Emery.

Carcillo potting the winner was great.

To me, this was the first truly unbelievable win. Hossa, Sharp and Shaw get hurt, Colorado skates and plays hard... and DAN CARCILLO wins the game late.

Nothing would surprise me anymore.

- AceRatbang

Great win - Yes. Impressive given being down by a goal and 3 top forward going into the 3rd - absolutely. Unbelievable - not for this team.

I still think the Calgary game was truely unbelievable.

But now I am nit picking.

Go Hawks!

You have to love the depth on this team! I think a Sharp injury is one that could be absorbed by this team. Look at the quality of players on the third and fourth line. I say Stalburg up for Sharp, Frolik in for Stalburg. Get two hard working SOB's from Rockford and this team can still roll. This is all hoping Shaw is not out for that long. We are all assuming concussion, but we really have no clue. We assumed with Hossa, Bolland, and Crawford. So it is just a wait and see game in that case.

Early word: 3-6 weeks, grade 2 separation, MRI today or tomorrow to confirm or see if there are any breaks or tears. Not confirmed, but from a source.

JJ,
Great read as always...but I just have one thing I would like to bring up, and see what your thoughts were.
I understand getting a penalty for breaking someones stick with a slash...but NO WAY should you ever be penalized for knocking someones stick out of their hands! It's your stick - you have to hold onto it. If you're not man enough to grip it tight enough, then that's your problem.
I know rules are rules, but this one I think is ridiculous.
Keep the streak alive!

Sounds right based on what we all saw.
Those guys reporting Sharpie will only be out 2 to 3 weeks are wishfully dreaming. And no sense in bringing the guy back too early when we have a little breathing room to let him get 100%.
