Wow. Gotta chime in on this one. Albert, B.B., and SRV were better, IMO. I cut my teeth in Rosa's lounge in the late 90's and have talked to many old timers who scoff at the idea hat Buddy is one of the all time greats. Entertaining and I love the stuff he did with Junior Wells, but I'll even go Mike Bloomfield and some Clapton stuff before I go Buddy Guy. All subjective. Just love tht some people still care enough about the blues to argue! Anyone play? I have harps and will travel!!!

It's not just me....

"Buddy Guy is by far and without a doubt the best guitar player alive...if you see him in person, the way he plays is beyond anyone. Total freedom of spirit, I guess. He really changed the course of rock and roll blues."

-Eric Clapton

That guy knows a thing or two about guitar playing.

For the record, you were the first to offer an opinion on the subject...
- Ogilthorpe2

Yeah - but I'm right.

Just screwing around - hope you know that.

I have many of BGs (what used to be called) albums - have seen him several times, at his original club and Ravinia, so I'm certainly not downgrading him.

But - if you haven't heard Albert King do "I'll Play the Blues for You", you're missing the best of the best - not one wasted note (as he said, it's not the notes you play that count - it's the ones you DON'T play).

"Buddy can go from one end of the spectrum to another. He can play quieter than anybody I've ever heard, or wilder and louder than anybody I've ever heard. I play pretty loud a lot of times, but Buddy's tones are incredible. He pulls such emotion out of so little volume. Buddy just has this cool feel to everything he does. And when he sings, it's just compounded. Girls fall over and sweat and die! Every once in a while I get the chance to play with Buddy, and he gets me every time, because we could try to go to Mars on guitars but then he'll start singing, sing a couple of lines, and then stick the mike in front of me! What are you gonna do? What is a person gonna do?"

More games vs Detroit, Boston, Toronto, Montreal, and New York.
- Ogilthorpe2

Would be nice! But at least we see them every year now though!!!
When I had Season tickets it was a joy to look through and see the great Eastern Conference teams coming to the Stadium.. Now every year they get a home and home. And just think of 2 games in a row against (B's, Pens' Rangers, Hab's) what fun that will be!!!!

Yes - and so many greats, going back to Robert Johnson and his accoustic followers on highway 66 and T-Bone Walker (one of my absolute favorites), first of the electric blues men.

Esplen hates Brouwer, thinks Tom Sestito is just as good, see below: LOL

"There are a lot of people on here who drool over the thought of landing Troy Brouwer (I'm not one of them). While, in my opinion, Tom Sestito has that same type of skill set. He's bigger than Brouwer. He's a better fighter than Brouwer. And he has close to the same type of hands as Brouwer. All the guy needs is a chance and I feel he can develop into a 200 hit, 15 goal type of player. "

- The_Councillor

Same type of hands??

Sesito scored a career high 11 goals in the AHL.

As long as B.B. King is alive, he has to take that title. That is BLUES guitar. Rock and roll blues is a different story...Duane, Bloomfield, EC and some guy named jimi...

Was at the club a few times, saw him at Ravinia too a couple summers ago. Always a good show, getting short though, he doesn't have the stamina of a young man any more.

Another Hawkless-nite, another couple of good documentaries on 11 (if you can deal with the pledge-drive crap) - Muddy Waters and the Stones, and Albert King (best blues guitarist ever) and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
- StLBravesFan

Got a few sweet Albert King shows, you could be right!!!

Youtube Clapton talking about Johnson. Something like "clapton acoustic robert johnson". He is in front of a studio mike and talks about playing three time signatures at once. Really cool.

Here in Fredericton, NB we've been building ourselves quite the little Festival over the last 10 years. Harvest Jazz and Blues.

Derek Trucks and Susan Tudeschi are two of my favorite underrated performers.

Was the Ravinia show the one with Jonnie Lang (who needs to learn about the notes you don't play) and he brought out Lonnie Brooks for a couple of songs?

Nice. I share that sentiment. Derek has the soul of a much older man (I guess that's good since Susan is much older). I always have a harp with me and am waiting to be called up on stage at an Allman Brothers show one day...

Use to go see Buddy every year for his extended run at the Old Legend's..In Jan/Feb I believe. Always a great show or 2 or 3 out of the 18 or so he would do!!!!But I think Albert is a little better!

I originally said Albert King was best: I admit I was wrong - THERE IS NO BEST - just a bunch of greats.
