Is that you Stan? JK
Ott is 58% at the dot, crashes the net, and is just the kind of PITA this team could use. Gives Q lots of options - especially come playoff time. Less money than Bolland, more versatile, and healthier. But I don't think you need to trade Bolland to get him. - Return of the Roar
My comments were strictly related to him vs Bolland. Ott is prone to bad penalties and isn't superb defensively. His skating also leaves a lot to be desired and there would be a skill dropoff from him to Bolland. I'm just not sure he's a fit. I like him as a player though.
But here's a guy who has always intrigued me: Mikael Backlund in Calgary.
Young C, who has shown offensive flashes and is quite good in his own zone, has loads of untapped potential and is only 23 years old. He has all the skills that would fit the Hawks system very well. With him being an RFA at season's end, the risk and asking price would be minimal.
He reminds me of a more gifted version of Marcus Kruger, but maybe a little less fearless. I believe with a change of scenery he could flourish and fulfill some of what made him such a highly touted prospect at one time. |

Screw it, let's go all in. Detroit will not win the Cup in the next few years based on the age and talent level of their roster.
Pavel Datsyuk has this year and next at 6.7M. UFA after 13-14. Let the Wings have their pick of 3-4 from Rockford, and maybe someone off the roster. Then team Pavel up with Hossa and Kane with the Captain. - scottak
Saad or Leddy off the roster, 3-4 guys from Rockford, Teravainen or Danault, and a #1 pick might get that conversation started.

Not in a million years...we're thin enough at C and Ott doesn't bring anything we can't find in a cheaper option, both in trade price and salary. - andru2797
I would not have an issue with Ott's salary. But it would be an overpay in terms of what you'd need to give Buffalo, as likely would Iginla. Ott might be less likely than Iginla as a trade target for that and other reasons.

Nate Thompson. I would even overpay a little to get him. He is very popular in TB, but the Hawks might have the chip(s) to pry him loose and he is EXACTLY what this club needs.

True...let's not forget Buffalo traded Derek Roy for him so they would want a significant return. |

Also, I could see TB getting a similar return as Buffalo got for Gaustad (as an overpayment). Similar situations. |

but that's the way it works...you get promoted for what you have done...sports no difference. The guy was/is almost a pt/gm producer over the last 5 years and was a big part of the cup team as well as other intangibles. My god if a young wanta-be done nothing like O'r gets 5mil/per what is Toews or Kane worth next time around?
I agree its a problem in the cap world and that those 10 plus year front loaded contract were insane...but the teams/GM's exploited their own CBA folly and screwed them selves....hence the lockout. |

With the Big lead in the Central this is a great chance to bring 3 forwards up and let them play.
1.Gives the banged up guys a good rest.
2.Provides the Hawks a chance to see who can do what in the NHL.
3.Provides a chance to show case prospects for any deadline trades.
SB has repeatedly stated they are looking to add a minor but experienced piece only which is consistent with last year's deadline and the off season
The only thing that may change that is injuries to top 6 forwards
Hawks appear set in Goal and on the Blue Line

Awesome accomplishment by Emery.
Carcillo potting the winner was great.
To me, this was the first truly unbelievable win. Hossa, Sharp and Shaw get hurt, Colorado skates and plays hard... and DAN CARCILLO wins the game late.
Nothing would surprise me anymore. - AceRatbang

Wonder if a later round pick and a kid from Rockford would work. Like Morin and a 4th. |

We'll find out this summer with some guy in PIT set to be the biggest UFA, perhaps ever, after next season. If ROR is worth 6 million, Malkin is worth 20. |

Maybe, depends on what you call an overpayment. One man's treasure is another man's trash. What does Stevie want to get his team to the next level?
Though I do agree, for the Hawks, where they are, what they need, they will likely have to overpay a bit to do just about anything.
That said, and I have a blog coming on this, I believe the Hawks know they are close but NOT a slam dunk to win the Cup and that they can improve this roster. Bowman also likely remembers what unforeseen Stanley Cup bonuses and other factors did to him in the summer of 2010, when he lost Niemi for no compensation and kinda got hosed on Ladd as well. Nt to mention lost credibility at that time.
In all likelihood, a rostered player would go in a deal that brings a meaningful rostered player in. You deal from strength in order to fill an area of need. A pending free agent with a high asking price could be what goes the other way.

More. For the Hawks, a 2nd rd pick is basically a third rounder to other teams. |
