STAY POSITIVE!!
- stveshdy

Hell they could win this game easily. They just have to start working hard, and skating like they were doing in the first period.

A big possitive I have seen from this season has been Grossman. I thought he may have overachieved last year, but he has been a rock for the majority of the season.

Well, they probably don't practice being a tight checking, shutdown team. So I'm guessing that if Lavy ever did tell them to play that way they'd look at him like a deer in the headlights.

That sounds about right.

When you have a 3 goal lead, all you have to do is check. This team can't do that. Because there is no base of it in the way they play. This team does one thing and only one thing well, which is forecheck. And they don't do that consistently. It's again evident that there is no checking structure in place. The Pens got the puck into the Flyers end easily time after time that period. And the Flyers are again struggling on the breakouts. The Flyers have once chance here. Try and outscore them.

They stopped doing every single thing in the 2nd period, that had them with a huge lead at the end of the 1st.

Just a stupid bunch of players, with a lot of the veterans making mistakes and "teaching" lazy play.

- flyer_nutter

I don't get it. Why is it a team stops playing, the way they did earlier in the game, when playing the way they did earlier in the game lead to a fat lead?

Grossmann is their best defenseman.

Which is odd because I don't think defense with Lavvy's system.
- ob18

I don't either, but it sure seems that quite often when they get a lead they have trouble matching the other team's intensity

That was absolutely maddening.

This has got to be the stupidest group of players I have ever witnessed.

Could be said about both teams in different periods.

Flyer fans always panic. One bad period and the world is going to end.

The Pens dumped it in, and managed to keep possession along the boards for extended periods of time.

Exposing a slow D that has a hard time moving the puck, and forwards that get exposed along the boards. The Penguins didnt win that period through transition scoring, they won it by sheer puck possession time in the Flyers zone. How many times did the Flyers have the pens out-numbered along the wall and lose the puck?

At some point, even if Lava doesnt "preach" d-first hockey, the players have to look themselves in the face. Up 4-1 to this?

For a couple of years now. I remember the Richards\Carter years and FlySkippy had the Flip the Switch Avatar.

Why can't they bring the same effort that the Devils do for 60 minutes a game?

Why couldnt a guy like Zherdev?

Sometimes, you just have players that work hard shift after shift, and others that dont.

What is Lava doing that has Rinaldo and Grossman working their ass off every night, but the rest of the team takes shifts off game after game. Perhaps management needs to do a better job of identifying players that have better work ethic and arent so damn streaky when it comes to putting forth that effort.

this is my biggest issue. their inability to win battles in their own end, or even when they do, they still have a very difficult time getting it out when pressured by the other team. eventually the puck ends up in the back of the net.

to blow a 3 goal lead - especially when having scored the 4th goal with 5 seconds left in the period - is inexcusable. that said, i've seen this script of scoring 4 goals in a period, chasing the goalie, and going limp the rest of the game far too many times in the last several years. it doesn't surprise me in the least.

Exactly. The team runs around like a chicken with it's head cut off and rather than taking a timeout with a 2 goal lead, h waits until it's 4-3, then pulls the goalie who isn't at fault at 4-4.
