Dave couldn't sing in the 70's. He's really no worse now, he just can't hit the yelps and wails that he used to hit.

I went to the "(frank) Eddie" tour, back in 2002 or 03. It was Roth as the opening act and Hagar as the "headliner". Dave came out and did 99% old VH, with 3 or 4 solo songs mixed in. It was solid, but it was kind of like listening to a VH cover band.

Sammy came out and blew him off the stage. His band was far more polished, he sounded great and they put on a great show.

Hagar has the better voice, no question. Dave in his heyday though was the ultimate front man and while I would rather see Sammy in concert, I do prefer the grittier sound of the 1st 4 albums over anything they have put out since.

The new CD...well the one that came out last year strikes a nice middle ground. It's guitar rock, a bit produced, but still EVH wailing and the band sounds tight....DLR's voice isn't what it was, but it's adequate.

I loved both bands. The original VH lineup was fantastic. And with Hagar was also great. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was a great album in my opinion.
