We should not worry about getting rid of Ballard and Booth . Buffalo will scoop them up and turn them into first liners

...Gillis wanted to Keep Ballard....almost same amount of salary........go figure...Salo was odd man out........
- Canuckfan2006

I think Salo was an injury issue not a financial issue. If you look at history he was hurt a lot. Bad luck? Prone to injury? Who knows those numbers don't lie.

Term was also an issue.

With Salo's injury history, I can't blame Gillis for not wanting to match TB's offer. Too risky.

Glad he's doing well, though.

Next year is a funny year with the rollbacks . Gillis said we need to get younger and bigger. With AV gone it may be time to bring in young players. Young players are more NHL ready when drafted than 10 years ago.

These are still kids, though.

I'll give you that there's a chance Corrado could make the team, but it would likely be as a callup.

Knowing Gillis, he's not going to go into camp assuming Corrado will take the spot—he'll sign a league min (or close to) journeyman, who won't outplay Corrado, but will get the spot to justify the signing.

Time in the AHL won't hurt Corrado.

With Gaunce, it would be a horrible decision to bring him to the NHL. Seriously, there's almost no chance the Canucks would bring him in.

His size and defensive game may be NHL-ready, but he needs to work on offence, and the OHL is the best place for that.

He'd be wasted on a 4th line. He'd be defensively responsible, win draws, and physically capable, but he's not a guy who throws many hits, and it would absolutely stunt his offensive development.

Perfect way to ruin a prospect.

You know he's moved to the wing and is almost a point per game now.

I do. But he's still taking draws, and has played a number of games back at center in the last month.

He was point/game at center last season, as well. It's nice that he can be used at either position—some centers have a difficult time transitioning to wing.

Don't think Gillis will have the balls to make a big splash.

You thinking Ballard has value loses all your credibility. If he did have value he would have been moved by now. No one wants him not even the Canucks. He is soft and is turnover prone. Say what you want about Komi but at least he is a tough guy and he was once good. He could easily be a bottom pairing guy with the canucks and add toughness.

Ballard may not be big, but he is anything but soft. What is soft is your argument, I think you should change your team.

That trade doesn't help us and is super lopsided. Also, we don't need anymore prospects, we need a cup.

I think Holtby is out-performing Schneider at the moment, and in the long-run will be the same level, so you are basically taking our top point guy and potential 2nd-line center as extras?

No no, a better trade, if you make the goalies the center pieces would be:

Schneider + Edler for Holtby and Backstrom? (Standard NHL 13 trade)

I think the Caps would like to resign Ribeiro, and with Edler, they could ditch Mike Green for something useful in a different trade.

You'd be wrong.

Holtby ended up being my worst fantasy pick this season

That other trade you suggest isn't bad, though. Leaves the Canucks in bad shape on the blue line, without Edler, but Backstrom would be a godsend.
