It has more to do with the unpredictability of certain breeds, or higher percentage of dogs within that breed. When you get an animal like a pitbull that is volatile and powerful, it spells trouble for most people. I agree that it is the people that do a poor job of raising their dogs, but it isn't an issue when they have a retriever.

Can't say I've heard of too many assaults by Bichon Frisés.

I won't argue with those numbers but we all know numbers never tell the whole story. Dogs are not inherently nasty, they do what they are trained to do and any animal put in a bad situation can turn out bad. A dog will defend itself if it feels threatened or defend those close to it, it's what they do. You can't brand all dogs or a specific breed of dog with the same stigma. Do all people with "issues" become serial killers ?

One of my friends has two dogs. They are good with them. They have a Cane Corso and a Great Dane. The Cane Corso scares the poop out of me. She is crazy. I don't know why they are keeping her...When they have people over they have to keep her in the garage, because they don't know how she'll react. She barks at strangers and she would probably bite if she was set free.

They have tried meeting an animal behavior specialist. The lady told them there was nothing she could do, and that she was "broken"

There are lots of attacks by smaller dogs, difference is they are just that small, of course a larger more powerful animal is gonna do more damage. I can recall several reports of packs of smaller dogs attacking and killing children etc. People don't report it as much when a small dog bites someone because the damage is not as great and they make excuses "oh you must have startled poor fifi" but if a bigger dog does the same thing it's vicious and needs to be put down immediately. It's like saying I'm an bumhole because I have tattoo's.
