2 differnet levels of fighters.

Of course. But that's what is great about Prust.

I thought that Martin should have dropped the mittens and went with someone. How often do you gat a shot at the Gordie Howe hat trick?

I would have both of those players on my team. I like guys that can play and scrap.. a team full of them would be not much fun to play against.

Matt Martin has gotten to the point where he should pick and choose when he fights. He is more valuable to the team when he can take a regular shift and not sitting in the penalty box.

i certainly hope so...but if you are implying he should have fought JUST for the sake of a "Gordie Howe Hat-trick", well that sounds kind of ridiculous....

agreed...the catch 22 the isles are in right now is that he is playing SO WELL with his current line mates but hes showing he has the talent and speed (his skating is night/day from what it was the past few years) to play more minutes on a better line...

Prust was just trying to not get killed! Lucic got a few shots in, Prust got one or two. But it was a meaningful scrap.

Think you can say the same for Cizikas too though. I think he's looking better and better each game. And as long as McD keeps his game very simple, I don't see why they can't be the better line that gets more minutes. Could be like the Hunter-Sillinger-Hilbert line in 06-07, where they got important minutes, shut down other teams' top lines, and Hunter and Sillinger put in 20 and 26 goals respectively on top of it all. Not saying Martin and Cizikas can or will hit those goal totals, but I think with more experience they can grow into a similarly versatile and useful line for the Isles.

I like the line for what it is currently...and worry about the Isles doing the Peter Principle thing they've done with other players playing well...promoting them beyond their level of ability.

i agree 100% which is why i think Nielsen is expendable and SHOULD be traded now (get me clowe!!), then move up the 4th line to the 3rd line...CC should be the 3rd line center of the future and MM is much better than a 4th line winger and Colin McD gels nicely with those 2.

Yep. He gave the puck away way too much last night. When he plays within himself, he is a strong player. When he tries to be "the man", that's what happens.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of Hab fans complain at how careless he can be with the puck at times. No doubt the kid's a very good player.

I still have nightmares of seeing Andy Hilbert repeatedly missing the net on point blank scoring opportunities. He was decent defensively but I was almost as glad when we got rid of him as I was Bruno...well...not quite that glad but pretty satisfied.

Hilbert was Yikes for most part. He was a good penalty killer though.

I really like certain players on this team. Hickey had a great game Finley is looking good. I mean seriously this team is better than last year in many ways

Wait....is this positve kasperrko or normal kasperrko?

I do like Hickey. I think when you consider this is his first ever NHL action, he shows good poise with the puck. He did make a positional mistake on the 1st goal last night but for the most part he's been quite steady. He was projected as a pp qb, so he could be the heir apparent to Streit on the power play someday...though we'll probably need someone to bridge the time between their duties.

Oh yeah...by 07-08 I had enough of Hilbert. Especially when Nolan kept putting him on the power play and on the top lines. Hunter too became painful to watch, and Sillinger's body just broke down. But that shutdown line for that one season was my favorite Isles line in (somewhat) recent memory. They were a nightmare for other teams' skill players.

I tried to think of a few other lines over the last 5 years to mention in comparision and came up pretty empty....kinda sad....
Although I would say that any line was good when it had PA on it

I think this is the level headed Kasper. When I go through things (especially depression) I really dont know what I am saying. This team is not as bad as everyone thinks. Granted I still have issues with JAck and Snow and the usual suspects but all in all certain players have been really impressing and you can see they are trying harder.

That's tough sledding man. These type of forums are rarely good to combat those type things since they tend to frustrate the hell out of people. From a fan perspective we all go through these peaks and valleys. Today we're flying high but it almost seems inevitable that they'll put up a clunker soon that has us all spitting nails again. Not to mention how trying a slowwwwwww rebuild like this is on an already battered fanbase. I definitely think we're seeing the team take form, but we have enough lame pieces still on the team (Reasoner, KO, AMac, etc) that there's still a ways to go. We need a couple of BIG pieces, which we've all pointed out, but I think things will turn quickly when they arrive.

Yeah I hear you. I usually come here to cheer up some times. You guys actually make me laugh. I rally beleive this team is in the right direction. The move will help tremendously and I pray they get in this year just to some of these guys have some playoff experience. It is a different game in teh playoffs. I hope they can beat the Rangers and then the Caps. I say we beat the Rags but lose to the Caps. Just seems to be the way things go. Yeah Amac has been real bad this year, I wonder what happened to him

Going to an Isles game that they win is great. Watching that game from a luxury box? Even better. Hanging with Mike Bossy in a luxury box during an Isles game that the team wins? Awesome.

JT was playing with a lot of fire last night. He played with emotion and I loved every bit of it.

I just think AMac was championed by the franchise before he ever earned his stripes. He's serviceable but very ordinary. There's no real skillset that he carries as a strength. His first year, he played very smart and conservative. He seems to be finding himself out of position a lot and also does a very poor job of positioning his body against forwards. That's a developmental issue that we all know seems to plague this team.
From the standpoint of being perceived 'negative', let's face it, it's a bit more fun to be sarcastic and throw stones while it can feel shallow to be a cheerleader. And this team has given us plenty of ammo over the last two decades. I'm a sarcastic (and sometimes negative) person by nature but I also tend to be a devils advocate so I'll often argue against the naysayers just to provide the counterpoint. We all have fun here and for the most part enjoy eachother. I've spent the last 15 years on the yahoo messageboards and they just locked us out two days ago with no warning. It really sucks since a few of us there have now spent years and years sharing good times and bad times with this team. It's easy to forget how much you appreciate all the personalties you talk to day to day even if you don't really know them. We didn't even get a chance to trade emails or say goodbye.
