So Flynn and Porter are NHL caliber player for the Sabres? we are in trouble. They should be on the first ride back to the AHL.
- SABRES 89

And Gerbe is our 2nd line LW. We are really in trouble.

What this shows is a flat out lack of talent, and a GM unwilling to or incapable of changing it.

Yep, just like what was said a few pages ago: (FRANK) you, Regier!!!

I was on the same page as you 04-05 is the lockout this time around needs a new name like extended break season or shortend season
- hubie

There is only one lockout IMO and that is 04/05 because the season was lost.

I prdict the Sabres will have 20Mil coming off the books next year (That icludes a Leino buyout)
- ImThatGuy

And that would be exciting, if only we had a different GM.

You like Pommer, you hate Pommer, You like Miller, you hate Miller. You like Gerbe, you hate Gerbe.

Truth is it doesn't matter. The team is playing so bad that you can't identify who is the problem and who is the solution. They aren't good enough to support each other.

A few weeks ago we were ready to crown Vanek king. Then the very predictable dissapearing act.

Flynn looks good, but how good can a guy look when we don't have the puck for 2 periods?

He was a solid #3 line player back in the day - you would pair him against the other teams top line and he would do a solid defensive job...players like Hecht were valuable when you had 2 lines that could score - now we only have 4 players that can score (Vanek line & Ennis)

The 2 biggest gaping holes on this team that kill us - complete lack of a #2 line and a lack of a physical steady presence on defense - our defense is a bunch of finessee players except for Regehr who has regressed into the 2nd coming of Craig Rivet

Myers and Ehroff need to be split and complimented with physical stay-at-home defenders so they can do their thing...they do not work together...

Back in the day like when he was on a line with Briere and Dumont or back in the day when he was on a line with Briere and Pominville?

Which part of Hecht type player did you not understand?
- hubie

I understand it fine. I commented that Flynn and Porter fit in line with this team, which is full of 3rd and 4th liners. Even in his prime, Hecht was no more than a solid 3rd line player. My point is we have WAY too many of the same type of players

No excuse for him not burying that goal last night. Same with Foligno not being able to lift it over Peters pads. Which was set up by Flynn and Porter btw

He was the guy to lock down a teams #1 line...he was the responsible player who allowed the other forwards to take more risks and not have to worry about odd-man rushes

He was a valuable mid-tier guy....now he is a guy that should be sitting in the press for a contender that you could call upon for 1-2 games as a 4th line stop gap where you were just looking for 6-7 min a game

We suck...and our defensively inept...so he has to play way more than he should

The point was he was a good 2nd line player there for a number of years. You said 3rd liner.

What I know is that he was one of those good middle cost players that teams need to have to be successful...we are going to have a ton of cap space after this season (around $20 mil) - the fix for this team is not 2 high priced guys - the fix is for a new GM to come in and sign 4-6 players that can be blended in with what we have

The GM also needs to trade or cut bait with these frince NHL prospects we hang on to for too long - someone has to have the balls to say... "McNabb (whomever you want to add) is not going to be a signifigant player - I need to package him with some of my garbage (Stafford) and trade for a decent part + the cap benefits that come with clearing the dead weight

Unless Leino gets healthy to get bought out, they'll have less than 14mil in space to fill 7-8 players.

Hodgson is going to take 3-4 mil of it.

They will get Leino on the ice at some point to buy him out - my guess is that he will want the fresh start as much as the Sabres are eager to dump him...
