The stats say you're way off. This team already lost Ehrhoff and without Edler you have very little offensive skill on the blue line. No offence, but anyone seriously suggesting a trade with him is way off base with this team. Play Edler in Tanev's role(matchups 5 on 5) and you'd like Tanev less and Edler a lot more.

Every single D man makes mistakes in a game. Edler mishandled a poor pass and was knocked down. There will be several more by the D throughout the game. You just choose to focus on Edler.

Purcell has less hits than Henrik Sedin and he doesn't forecheck at all. His stats are inflated in TB... He's among the top PP TOI guys on that team. We'd have to guarantee him a pretty cushy role to see that kind production here. If we acquire a guy like that, I'll hide in a tree outside Gillis' house David Booth style with a hunter's bow & put this franchise out of its misery.

I agree that Purcell's stats are inflated on TB, but he's still a top6 puck moving winger (the Canucks only have one), and it's two bad contracts the Canucks are getting rid of. Offers aren't exactly pouring in.

I'm talking about 5 on 5 play, Edler apparently plays the most minutes against quality competition(top 2 lines of other teams) at even strength. Meanwhile Tanev and Ballard play the least amount of minutes against those guys. Which D-man is more likely to make a noticeable mistake once in awhile? And according to those same stats, when Edler's on the ice against those lines, the Canucks still control the play more than their opponents, meanwhile the Canucks are outshot generally when Ballard/Tanev are on the ice against 3rd and 4th lines.

Both of those teams are great at even strength(their PP's are horrible at times), the fact you named both of those teams goes to show that the 5 on 5 puck possession stats are even more important than the average fan realizes.
