Anyone interested in an injured Tarasenko? I could use a D man or a Goalie offers?

Not too interested in him, but I'm willing to move a goalie.

Only way that happens

1) Corey lights out
2) Barker and Ballard are a ++
3) Raymond out plays Logan
4) Niemi is avg
5) refs call a good game
6) Southsiders are loud enough for the nucks to hear them
7) AV plays Kassian on top 6
8) elder plays unlike elder
9) Sedins 3 points each
10) MG's face is not so red

- Greg7705

Really don't understand why everybody thinks Edler is having such a bad season.

His Rel Corsi QoC is far better than any other defenseman on the team.

He makes mistakes, for sure, but so have most of the D this season.

Bottom line is when he's on the ice, far more chances are generated against the other team than on the Canucks, and he faces the other teams best players more often than not.

I'd take him over Weise, at this point.

Same here. But he won't get claimed if they want to give Pinni a chance and don't want to waive Weise.

Exactly, he's playing the toughest competition to of all the d-men too, Tanev and Ballard have had the easiest assignments. It's no coincidence that Edler is getting much more criticism in general than those two. Switch their roles and there would be Edler Norris talk from the homers and Tanev/Ballard would get lit up IMO.

It's just another case of when a player becomes a whipping boy...

I've been disappointed with some of Edler's play this year, but for every mistake he makes, there's a dozen great plays that nobody ever mentions...

No they wouldn't.

... and what's so easy about the assignment to play with the biggest plugs on the team? Ask anyone which role they'd rather have... That, or shifts with the Sedins where the opposition rarely gets to possess the puck for any meaningful length of time.

Having said all that, I assume the only reason people are giving Edler sh!t is because he just signed an extension to become our highest paid d-man. With the contract comes the scrutiny.

The advanced stats show they they've been pretty mediocre(shots for/against) during the last 2 seasons against other teams third and 4th lines, but you could be right about the fact that they've been put out their with the 4th line at times but 5 on 5, I've seen AV put both of them out when they were a pair with the Twins, especially earlier in the seasons, which coincidentally was when the Sedins were struggling by their standards. Tanev looks like one of those players that can't be judged by the advanced stats though, he always seems to make the right play, but clearly the 4th line is still an issue if they're getting out played by other team's 4th lines on a regular basis.

ED bk3 and Ham I don't worry about. Mistakes are gonna happen when they stop improving on the mistakes is when I will worry. I won't be hugely critical of them unless its costing us numerous goals and games. Tanev is a real treat to watch this year and has a great first pass as good as Hamhuis. To sum it up I am not overly impressed with D this year but have seen a gradual improvement in all. I am however worried about offence and extremely unhappy with Coaching. AV and his staff have become a detriment IMO.

I recall seeing Ballard/Tanev out with the Sedins for a significant number of shifts. I think what Fosco is talking about is that B/T typically get offensive zone starts (with or without SSB) and at home that might mean a line matching advantage for the Canucks, therefore an easier assignment than a defensive zone start with Lapiere/Weise/Volpatti on the ice. I'm just guessing though.

I'd like to see how many points Tanev would have if he got 4 mins per game of PP time like Edler does. He's the slickest cheekiest passer we've had on the back end in as long as I can remember... Instead, they put an extra forward high on the 1st unit with Edler and that forward is usually doing (frank) all.

I just stuck up for Edler, but he should have more than 12points for the role he plays on this team.

What Fosco is also talking about is the QOC stat(Quality Of Competition), it measures the quality of opponents faced by how many minutes their opponents usually play..if that makes sense. Like first liners typically play about 16-20 minutes so if Edler is out there on many shifts against forwards that play those many minutes, the stat assumes that they are high quality competition. And vice-versa with Ballard/Tanev.
