I really don't see them moving him and to the best of my knowledge he's not unhappy in pittsburgh?
- Sabresfan-365

Like Gunner said, they'll offer him their best deal prior to the draft. If he says no, he'll be on a different roster before the 1st rd is over.

The young forward will have a top 6 pedigree instead of being a very good third liner like Sutter. Letang has serious value on the market. Look at what role defensemen fetch every year. Plus he would still have a cap hit of only 3.5M for that year.
- Gunner Staal

Agreed.

I have a better read on how Shero does and completes business than I'll ever have on Darcy.

Plenty happy. But Shero has a salary structure to maintain and when it comes down to Malkin or Letang, well, sorry Kris. The strength of the Pens organization are defense prospects, which makes replacing a d man that much easier.

I'm not looking for the Pens to actively shop Letang, but I'm not paying him 7M/yr either.

- Gunner Staal

i dont' think he'll get 7. pens could probably lock him up for 8 years at around 6 mil, not too bad.

if not, sens will GLADLY take him off your hands....a 1-2 punch of karlsson and letang would be fun to watch

Oh okay got it. Pominville for letang does sound intriguing but I'm guessing Shero and company would want Vanek to play with Crosby?

A young top 6 guy with RFA years left, a marginal prospect, 1st, and mid round pick,

If they are moving Letang, they aren't going to take on soon to be UFA's or guys making 5+mil per. Thats not the way Shero does business.

I think most ppl would take your side
Maybe I'm biased,
But I think Pominville is very underrated...
Pominville did have more points than Perry last year (and a lot of othe guys you'd consider "stars")
And while he did play with Vanek, they basically had scrubs for centers (Roy for the most part)
Perry got to play w Getzlaf & Ryan...
I'm surprised with those 3 together they all don't go over 100pts each every season

Pominville is also solid defensively and a great PK guy

And Pominville at 5.3mil is much more cap friendly than a signed Perry at 7mil or more

When u take all that into account,
Perry for Pominville straight up actually seems pretty fair to me
The big difference isn't in talent or production, but name recognition

To give an idea of how pominville is thought of by NHL ppl, LA was willing to trade D.Brown to us for him last season & we said no

- jdfitz77

hmm. well said fitz. legit argument.

id prolly still lean towards perry but not as far as before...

He has said since the Hossa trade that he wants some kind of contractual control of the players he acquires, usually RFA's IE: James Neal.

Pominville will be 32 to start his next contract and will be in the 6 mil range.

Perry will be 28 on his next deal and in the 7.5 range.

1yr of Pommer at 5.3 followed by 8yrs of Pommer at 6mil or 7yrs of Perry at 7.5?

IMO it's a no brainer.

That guy totally misrepresented what I said too...
I said,
"if perry wont extend with the ducks, why would he sign here and pass up free agency? Wouldnt make sense... pominville + for a rental? F that!"

While I agree that it would take something like Pominville and a 1st to get him,
There's no way I'd make that deal

Interesting I figured he would want someone who could make an immediate impact.

Ennis, Catenacci, 1st, 3rd? ...it fits the description

Not even in the ball park. Ennis has no value on Pittsburgh Crosby/Malkin/Sutter already play center.

no math!!!!

seriously though- this makes sense.

i was just saying that if someone said "quick- whos better- perry or pominville?"
it would be perry in a landslide- but they are prolly closer than i thought...
