I'm not super keen on Perry. If he isn't signed I feel it is dumb to trade one of our best players for him. It isn't completely outrageous to suggest Pominville for Perry though because he will carry a lower cap hit going forward, and plays PK and decent defense. I realize Perry has better numbers but there are some intangibles that Pominville has that Perry doesn't. That coupled with the Ducks having to resign either him or Getzlaf, or work magic to sign both, could make it possible.

Perry makes sense to a team that is missing one piece. The Sabres are not that team this year. It would make little sense to go after a rental. Sabres need to keep their long term assets (1st round picks/prospects) that it would take to acquire a guy like Perry.

I know, just saying say he gets 8 in UFA, he can only sign for 6 or 7 years, where he can get an extra year if he stays and takes a tad less say like 7.5.
- dadeadhead

I agree with that. The Ducks just have to chose 1 or the other, they have 0 center prospects that are really worth anything. It is going to be a mess, IMO.

I see Perry being traded for a 1st, 2 Prospects and a roster 2/3 line guy.

I do believe Letang will be shopped in the next year. Shero will offer him a deal at the beginning of next year that is the most the Penguins are willing to offer, if he declines, he will be traded like Staal was.

Simon Despres and the other top defensive prospects give Shero that leverage.

If that is the case, we will thrown in a second and half of Tyler Myers salary.

Most definitely. He would be great on a lot of teams, including the one I follow closest.

However, that is a different discussion than the Perry situation.

I have a sneaking suspicion he will be a Red Wing by years end.

So Pommer, Sid does need a good wing man.

It really is amazing how well the Pitt organization just keeps churning out players, and keeps buliding depth.

I don't think they have to choose one or the other though. They can move Ryan and get a boatload in return for him.

If Letang gets moved, I'd expect something similar to what they got for Staal.

A young forward with years of RFA time left, a prospect, 1st, and 4th/5th.

My point is Pommer has no intangibles that Perry doesn't have.

Pommer is a very good player, Perry is just better.

I agree, i would like to see the Sabres explore the option of trading the "The big 3" Pommer, Vanek and Miller.

If you can get a 1st + Good Propect + roster player for any I say you do it.

The young forward will have a top 6 pedigree instead of being a very good third liner like Sutter. Letang has serious value on the market. Look at what role defensemen fetch every year. Plus he would still have a cap hit of only 3.5M for that year.

i know this has nothing to do with this thread, but i need the opinion of sabres fans.....

i'm having a discussion/argument with another sabres fan (kingkong something or other) in the ducks blog, about trading for corey perry.

he seems to think that trading pomminville for corey perry (signed to an extention) straight up, is a fair deal, and pommer and a 1st is an overpayment.

please tell me it's not just me, and that this person is actually on crack if he thinks that's even close to enough to get perry.

- sensarmy_11

I think most ppl would take your side
Maybe I'm biased,
But I think Pominville is very underrated...
Pominville did have more points than Perry last year (and a lot of othe guys you'd consider "stars")
And while he did play with Vanek, they basically had scrubs for centers (Roy for the most part)
Perry got to play w Getzlaf & Ryan...
I'm surprised with those 3 together they all don't go over 100pts each every season

Pominville is also solid defensively and a great PK guy

And Pominville at 5.3mil is much more cap friendly than a signed Perry at 7mil or more

When u take all that into account,
Perry for Pominville straight up actually seems pretty fair to me
The big difference isn't in talent or production, but name recognition

To give an idea of how pominville is thought of by NHL ppl, LA was willing to trade D.Brown to us for him last season & we said no

Plenty happy. But Shero has a salary structure to maintain and when it comes down to Malkin or Letang, well, sorry Kris. The strength of the Pens organization are defense prospects, which makes replacing a d man that much easier.

I'm not looking for the Pens to actively shop Letang, but I'm not paying him 7M/yr either.
