i know this has nothing to do with this thread, but i need the opinion of sabres fans.....

i'm having a discussion/argument with another sabres fan (kingkong something or other) in the ducks blog, about trading for corey perry.

he seems to think that trading pomminville for corey perry (signed to an extention) straight up, is a fair deal, and pommer and a 1st is an overpayment.

please tell me it's not just me, and that this person is actually on crack if he thinks that's even close to enough to get perry.

Trust your instincts. One is a former MVP, 50 goal scorer, Stanley Cup Champion, Gold Medalist.

The other is a fine player in his own right but c'mon.

IMO the Ducks would never do Perry for Pommer straight up and probably wouldn't even do Pommer and a 1st for him.

I said pommer and a 1st for perry, didnt talk about even signing the extention yet....i was just thinking about getting him here first and foremost. then negotiating the contract. i think pommer and a 1st to get him here is fair

Perry wants to test the waters and why shouldn't he really. It's his right.

It starts with Ennis+1st to get talks going also probably have to throw in a D prospect like Pysyk.

Also I do not want to trade for Perry specualation is that he is going to test FA no matter what and is thinking of the 8+ range. So just try it then

All signs point to him testing the market at this point. Which means the Ducks will probably move him, something I did not think was going to happen. It will certainly make things interesting.

IMO, honestly he's leaving money on the table, but it is his right to test the market.

As great of a player Perry is, and yes Perry for Pommer straight up is stupid. I would be willing to bet a lot of GMs would love to get Pominville

The Ducks can sign him to a 7 year deal and the rest of the league can only sign him up to 6 years correct?

I'm just using what the NHL used to explain the Kaleta hit as a counter to why nothing came out of the Girardi hit...its called deductive reasoning and logic...

i would LOVE pommer on my team....but yes, it's ridiculous to think he's worth the biggest "target" of the year straight up.

oh, and my bad, it wasn't the Kingconc guy, it was jpfitz77 (or something liek that)

The Ducks are in a world of trouble, IMO. They need to sign Getz they have no Centers to fill in his role. He will get 7+. Their next best C is Cogliano. With Koivu and Selanne probably retiring, and Perry leaving, the next best option is Emerson Etem on line 1.

I'm not super keen on Perry. If he isn't signed I feel it is dumb to trade one of our best players for him. It isn't completely outrageous to suggest Pominville for Perry though because he will carry a lower cap hit going forward, and plays PK and decent defense. I realize Perry has better numbers but there are some intangibles that Pominville has that Perry doesn't. That coupled with the Ducks having to resign either him or Getzlaf, or work magic to sign both, could make it possible.

Can i propose we create a new thread where people can whine about the Kaleta/Richards incident? I'd love to move on to Carolina, etc.
- nfph

With Vanek back, I wonder how the lines will look...
I'm hoping they keep the top two like they've been and play vanek on the 3rd, givin us 3 lines that should be able to find the score sheet

Foligno-Hodgson-Pominville
Gerbe-Ennis-Ott
Vanek-Grigorenko-Stafford
Hecht-Porter-Flynn

That 3rd line would really have some crazy potential on it...
We'd finally have Grigorenko with legit talent to play with, and having Vanek out there with them to draw the focus of the defense should give The other two some room to make plays & get good shots

Most definitely. He would be great on a lot of teams, including the one I follow closest.

However, that is a different discussion than the Perry situation.

I think it was ammended to 8 years/7 years but yeah, they have the ability to offer him a longer deal.

I know, just saying say he gets 8 in UFA, he can only sign for 6 or 7 years, where he can get an extra year if he stays and takes a tad less say like 7.5.
