Off the top of my head...
JVR, schenn, j.staal, sutter, Whitney, Simmonds... And it goes back...
Even Phaneuf, Bouwmeester, Penner, Kunitz, Coburn...
Going way back to trades like Luongo (twice), chara, Briere... and there's been many many more

If we can't get a Perry or Getzlaf I would look at the next tier Raymond, Stalberg, Yip, Chipchura, maybe Wolski. The thing is we can't overpay for a second tier guy like we did with Leino.
- adambuffalo

That is a very uninspiring list of players as next tier UFA's. Yuck.

I like armia a ton and i think he is very good too.. I just worry about how skinny he is and taking the body a ton. Armia is what 20? And playing with the pros in Finland?

I cant wait for him to get here...

- JVince11

He's over 200lbs
I don't think size will be the adjustment so much as the speed of the NHL...
We are seeing that with Grigorenko now IMO
Given the chance though,
Both will be able to show their talent and help produce here...
They'll just take some time to be consistent scorers IMO

U think he scores 30 next year?
I'd say more like 15, maybe 20...
Even though he has the talent & size, the NHL is still an adjustment for any young player

ok
jvr was for schenn take that out
j stall for sutter scr that one too
B Schenn and Simmons you have me there

but historically older players i.e. the ones we are trading get you picks not prospects that often.

Plus there is no way in Hedes Darcy is trading any of our youth

He is listed at 187 and 6.3....That is skinny. Were do you see him listed over 200. I am sure he will put on some weight, but I am not sure he is that big right now. And his biggest issue in the Pros has been his skating.

Everyone is calling for a Leino buyout. If we bought him out this would be his Cap hit for the next 8 years.
$1,750,000
$1,750,000
$2,250,000
$2,250,000
$1,250,000
$1,250,000
$1,250,000
$1,250,000

His actual cap hit is $4.5 million each of those years. So could we get someone for $2.25m- $3.25m that will be better?

Look at his numbers, he has not improved like you would like to see. He had a nice stretch of 10 games this year. Outside of that he has been average at best. He has a nice shot. He is a big body. He is not a strong skater. Guys like that tend to be better suited for the AHL.
- Pillar

Missed 10games with injury...
Was dominant in the World JRs this season-
That tourney was littered with guys now in the NHL and out scored ALL of them except Nugent-Hopkins (who had only 3 more points in 1 extra game with way more talent on his roster)
And currently,
Armia has put his team in Finland on his back and carried them from 12th place to 3rd with a 10game winning streak

The AHL might do him good for a year,
But I think he can be productive right away also

No it wouldn't...
With the amnesty clause in the new CBA you can buy out up to 2 players with no future cap ramifications

NO!!!!!!

I just don't think we are gonna see Armia in Buffalo next year. He will probably need some time in the AHL.

I did not know that. I see he scored the smae number of goals, but his assists were down. His total production is down. He also did not impress at the world juniors. His best games were after his team was all but eliminated from medal contention.
