why does defense have to only be about blocked shots and hits. lidstrom never had lots of hits or blocked shots, he played sound positional D, and was effective at taking the puck away with his stick.
if all that's important in playing defense is hits and blocked shots, then we smid should have been a norris finalist last year. - sensarmy_11
Because our team is currently composed of 80% puck movers, and we couldn't stop an all-girls rec league offense right now. There's a long standing precedent that for every Niedermayer you should have a Stevens, a Foote for every Ozolinsch, etc.
I was more replying to the general idea that because he doesn't hit or block shots, that he doesn't play good defense.....wasnt' taking a shot at you. - sensarmy_11
Homie, just say the word and I'll ban this guy for 3 months.
I could see scott being moved at the deadline if the sabres go backwards
I also think this is the time to be buyers if they want to salvage the season - homiedclown
I'd like to trade all our UFAs to be for picks & prospects
Then use what we already have + the assets we'd receive to improve in the offseason...
There are quite a few teams in really bad cap trouble that will need to shed players...
Calgary, Chicago & Vancouver come to mind
There's a few guys on the Rangers I'd like too... if they don't buyout Richards or Gaborik, then guys like Staal, Del zotto, McDonough or Girardi could become available
I think Weber and Chara had better years then Karlson, but the voters generally go with the points guy. I tell you what, watching Peiterangelo from the blues, that kid is something special. He has the offensive ability and he plays with an edge to his game. He can be trusted in any situation and he is getting better every time I see him. I would love to have a guy like that on my team. He has the physicality and offensive ability to be a Norris candidate for the next 10 years. He struggled a little early this year, but he is really turning his game up a notch. - Pillar
i agree.....i think karlsson and piets are gonna have a nasty norris battle for the next decade. it helps that both play in systems that are ideally structured to bring out the best in their respective games.

our D (frank)ing sucks
I mean it SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm not even gonna reply to the other two......it's nice to see someone with a little logic.
i laugh at people who say karlsson is one-dimensional. it's VERY OBVIOUS these people don't watch karlsson play.
before he went down, he was playing almost 30 minutes a night, over 2 mins/g on the PK, was leading the league in takeaways.
he's BY FAR the best offensive d-man in the league, while at the same time being a much better than average defensive player
EASILY one of the 3 best in the league. anyone who says otherwise is just a hater, or doesnt' EVER watch him play. - sensarmy_11
I do watch him play. I watch him join the rush way to often. He is on the ice for more 2 on 1's going the wrong way than any other player in the league. You are right, he does log alot of minutes. He is not very good on the the PK. I watched Anderson bail him out about 10 times this year when he fails to pick up his guy in front of the net. He also seems tentative when it comes to blocking shots. With that in mind, and considering that he is facing long term recovery from a career threatening injury, I am not sure how you can put him in the top 10 right now.

makes no sense to tread water and that is what darcy has done with this roster
make the moves to compete
or make the moves to give us a top 5 pick
9th or 10th in the east does not speed up the rebuild, keeps the team stagnant IMO

A ew days ago I found a great new Twitter account called NHL Young Guns Daily (@YoungGunsDaily) and they give great prospect analysis and comparisons. Looks like its one prospect per day, and going in order by divisions. Today was Toronto and they talked about McKegg, yesterday was Ottawa and they did Stone. Pretty cool. They did Jake McCabe a few days ago and compared him to Jack Johnson...is that a fair comparison?
Since it would be a low 1st, I'd rather that piece be a young player that's already in the league who we'd have a better idea on what he'll become...
After the top10 picks, even the rest of the first round is is such a crapshoot
Plus, I want someone that is ready to join this group of youngsters, not be 3 years or so behind them
If all we can get is picks and prospects,
Then hopefully we can turn them into guys that can help ASAP
