If the roles were reversed and Richards had hit Kaleta, there would not have been a penalty called unless it was for delay of game on Kaleta. All the big apple bloggers would be saying, he just gave him a little shove.

Salary cap is 72M tbis season and goes down to 64M next season.
Buffalo is 5M under right now and next year will be like 14M before resigning any rfas or ufas. We have 18 skaters under contract right now for nxt year
I really hope we don't bring back ANY of those UFAs...
No freaking thank you
Not that anyone would trade for Scott, but hopefully we can move the other 3 at the deadline... Hecht prob just gets a low pick, but defensemen have been getting a prospect + a 2nd recently, that would be great for two guys I don't wanna re-sign anyways
Of the RFAs, only Hodgson will get a significant raise, and only around 1.5-2mil more most likely
and PLEASE...name 10 dmen that you would take over karlsson. hell, name 5
the ONLY guys who should be mentioned in the same breath, IMO, are weber, pietrangelo, chara, and letang.....maybe keith. but i still think karlsson is better than all of them. - sensarmy_11
Norris was awarded to the wrong person. It was awarded to the highest scoring defenseman, not the best defenseman.
Doughty, Chara, Weber, Letang, Pietrangelo, Keith, Staal, Bogosian are a few I would consider on my team before Karlsson. Unless I'm drafting for my fantasy hockey team. Then I would take Karlsson.
there is no way KArlson is a top 7 d-men, in my opinion. Sorry no KArlson, his game is too one dimensional. I would put him right around 10. He might be the best offensive D-man. Kinda like Phil Housley. Karlson is a career -13 player. I could never put a career - player in the top 10 in Defense. I know it's not the end all be all, and Karlson may be the best point man on the PP in the NHL, but he is not a top 5 defender.

Yea, that pretty much has already happened numerous times.

Can someone explain to me why this isn't considered a "bang bang" play and not worthy of a suspension? Looks a little like the Ennis/Girardi play. Ross turns and put himself in this position. So why is this a suspension and Girardi's is not?

how many sen games do you watch?
how many of their playoff games did you watch last season?
he is as good in his own end as any of those d men not named chara or weber IMO
Pietrangelo is about on par with him and a great comparison of the two

Because the league enforces things inconsistently. I'd really, really love to move on from this.

There's a Seabrook argument to be made also,
But in general I like tough "defensive" defensemen more that the more "offensively" oriented guys...
No doubting how good Karlsson is though... It's been a while since a defenseman was able to produce offensive #s like him...
What happened to mike green btw?
He was awesome, for like a second or two...
I know he's had injuries, but he's gone from 30goal scorer to suck pretty quick!
Kind of reminds me of how Cheechoo took the league by storm and then totally disappeared almost as quickly as he became a stud

7.) Kris Letang (+31)
6) Ryan Suter (+38)
5.) Duncan Keith (+90)
4.) Alex Pieterangelo (+20)
3.) Drew Doughty (+8)
2.) Shea Weber (+47)
1.) Chara (+157) - Pillar
You cant go by plus minus stats though. That is more of a line stat. Look at how bad Ottawa was 2 years ago. Before Anderson. If you were to pick a D based on his shut down ability he wouldnt be mentioned but if you look at everything he brings he is top 3 with Chara and Shea Weber.

Oilers gave up a 4th, could be a third for brown
I could see scott being moved at the deadline if the sabres go backwards
I also think this is the time to be buyers if they want to salvage the season
The time is now to trade Pommer. He is worth much more to this team as a bargaining chip to get some high end prospect then he is as a Captain and producer. He is 30 now and his production has peaked. He has captained a losing team. Bottome line is this team needs new leadership. The core of players that has been around has not produced in the playoffs. We need to rebuild. I'd keep vanek around, but get rip of pomminville. His abilities are fine, but he has failed miserably as a leader. - Pillar
What kind of return would you be looking for?
I think we could get a pretty good return too

agreed, such an over rated stat
if your team sucks, your plus minus is going to suck
if your a great player on the team that sucks, your plus minus will go down 10 spots just because of the empty net goals your team will allow

I do like Kaleta. I like the way he plays most of the time. That being said, I don't think Richards would make such a bone head play and cost his team the game, not to mention almost kill someone. I also think it makes Sabres fans look bad when they say things like this. That hit was stupid and dangerous. As a former hockey player I can tall you it is the most dangerous hit that will occur on the ice. He was in a defenseless position, his back was to Kaleta (he didn't turn away like you see alot of the time). I think Kaleta should have been suspended longer. This is not the first time he has put another player at serious risk to injury on an illegal hit. I don't care if Richards played the next shift or not, Kaleta could have ended his career with that nonsense. Bottom line, he crossed checked Richards in the back about 4 feet from the boards. That is scary, and for Kaleta not to own up to it is ridiculous. It shows he thinks he did nothing wrong. I hope he learns from it. The next time it happens, it could lead to a very serious injutry, which could mark the end of Pat Kaleta's career too.
