What "real" NHL team has 8 mil in cap space?

(because im too lazy to look it up) can anyone think of a situation in the past where a team in anaheim's position (serious cup contender) actually moved a top pending UFA at the deadline???
should be interesting... |

if the cap only goes up 1 mil next year, sens have around 20 mil in cap space, and only have to resign condra, regin, weircioch, and alfi (if he comes back). all 4 of those guys could be had for about 6 mil total, leaving 14 million in cap space, with a full roster. easily enough to land perry, plus another big FA if they want one. |

Not offhand,
But then again, I'd think it's pretty rare that a top free agent actually walks from a top contending team...
Parise did last year, but how much longer was Jersey gonna contend for with Brodeur being so old?
Hossa bounced around after Pittsburgh traded for him, but he went to Detroit & Chicago who were contenders in their own right

The cap is going down to 64mil next year
Then I believe it can go up or down from there based on league revenue |

Lots of ppl are nickelback fans...
Doesn't mean they're any good
And u and I never had this "discussion/argument" you're talking about...
U just ripped on my post quite ridiculously after I was gone...
So if u want to actually go at it, then counter the points I made showing there isn't that much difference between the two players...
-Pominville out scored Perry last year
-Pominville has 3 more goals this year
-Perry plays with better line mates
And also counter the point that Pominville will cost roughly 2mil less on his next deal than Perry will,
Which with the cap going down is a very big deal
With all that in mind, how exactly is Perry sooooooo much better? - jdfitz77
Not really. Etem and Getzlaf are his linemates. Ryan is their number 2 C. I would argue having Vanek and Hodgson is a better all around trio. |

Rome is a moron, I like his show better when he has guest hosts.
Back to the Pomminville for Perry discussion. It would be interesting to see it happen, something like Pomminville and a conditional pick based on if he resigned but at the same time if he doesnt resign its a waste of a good roster player in Pommer.
The Ducks would probably want someone younger and cheaper with more upside (Ennis, Foligno, maybe even Hodgson) They will need help up the middle even if they do resign Getzlaf which I think they pretty much have to.
Back to reality Darcy doesn't have the stones to make a trade like that. I miss Muckler and his lets seriously shake this roster up trades |

i replied to you, and somebody else replied to me....that's why i wasn't initially sure who to refer to.
either way, to your points
-Pominville out scored Perry last year perry outscored him the 3 previous years (while winning the hart), and has more points this year
-Pominville has 3 more goals this year despite that, perry still has more points
-Perry plays with better line mates - pommer's linemates are outscoring perry's, not sure how you figure they're better. you don't think vanek and hodgson are as good as getzlaf and ryan, or atleast close. they're outscoring them.....
add to that the fact that perry is 5 years younger.........
if you don't think he's better then fine..........i think most people think he's worth a lot more. which isn't taking anything away from pommer, i think he's a very good player
now i'm done.
edit - as someone else mentioned, ryan isn't even his linemate....so pommer actually has better linemates then perry.
NOW I'M DONE |

Has nothing to do with stones, the Sabres arent close to being in a situation where they are in the market for a high profile rental player. It would be one of the worst things they could do right now. |

ah, well then ottawa will have 24 mil in cap space, not 20.....they only have 40 mil committed next season. they'll have PLENTY of money to sign whoever they want. |

Assuming a buyout of Leino, and not re-signing Leopold or Regehr, will give us some room...
The only significant raise will be to Hodgson,
His cap hit will go up 2mil at most
But what we have to look at is the following offseason,
Bc Vanek, Miller, Pominville and Ott are all UFA
So what we try and do this offseason will greatly depend on what the plan is for those guys the next season |

The Ducks are in a world of trouble, IMO. They need to sign Getz they have no Centers to fill in his role. He will get 7+. Their next best C is Cogliano. With Koivu and Selanne probably retiring, and Perry leaving, the next best option is Emerson Etem on line 1. - ImThatGuy
I think these players that think they will get the big contracts like in the previous CBA have a rude awakening heading their way. |

Wasn't meaning as a rental player, I mean in general. This team needs a high profile player but not a rental. I'm not sure I would even want to move those younger players I mentioned for Perry. Yes it sounds great when you say it but if you look at this roster I totally agree with you a rental is not the answer |
