Why would he want to walk after the playoffs? That makes no sense. Are you talking about his potential to make one final pay day in the open FA market?
- simethos

I thinks its in reference to The trade being a bust. If it turns out to be one. Which I cant see happening.

Ah I see. That makes sense. That would be great. I think the focus point should be using this years draft pick to try and nab a great center. There's a lot of them. Couple that with a good prospect would be a good start to rebulding.
- david22

Yea, I agree. If we could add, say, Spooner, an NHL ready prospect and then pick up another strong C in the draft, I would call it a successful year. Being from the East, who do you like in the draft for C

Drouin would bee tops IMO but Barkov, MacKinnon, Monohan...

I think he is saying that PIT would let him walk and not worry about the cap structure with him. Not so much of Iggy's doing but of PIT's.

That is absolutely a factor.

Also considering Luongo in the last five years hasnt been the "top five goalie" he was acclaimed to be...

Average in past 5 seasons: 2.32 GAA / 0.919 SV%

And thats playing in front of a team who has been atop the standings in most years of late. Just saying.

Drouin is looking great. He's got amazing hands. He's not huge though, but a lot of players over come that with skill.

Mackinnon would be choice number two I think

Pittsburgh needs shut down defense more than offense right now. Orpik is lost out there. Last night he got his bell rung and he was all over the place. Letang, Niskanen, and Despres have defensive lapses where they're up too far and they have to scramble to get back. They can't clear the net for poop! Eaton's a vet, but he's not a crease clearer, by any means. Engelland is okay, but he's no Hal Gill or Rob Scuderi circa 2009. This defense is in need of help, and Ray Shero didn't do them any favors by trading Rev Lovejoy so soon. At least he was stable in his own zone. I can't say the same for the rest of them. Orpik especially. I don't know what the hell's wrong with that guy but he's playing like poop. 90% of the goals that go in, in front of the net, seem to be his assignment.

I'd worry about trading for Iginla after they address their nagging defense issues.

True. But he frequently holds us in alot of games. Dont think he gets the credit he deserves enough.

I don't necessarily see Iggy as a rental in Pittsburgh. I could see him re-signing there at a reduced rate to try and win a cup. He's only 35, he still has at least 3 years which he can be a healthy contributor to the team, especially playing with Malkin and Crosby. Besides, even if he did win a cup this year he's not going to retire, I could see Pittsburgh as a place he would want to finish his career.

I bet Iggy would get Doan like offers if he hit the market. I dont see Pitts being able to fit that into their cap.

Crosby - 8.7
Malkin - 8.7
Neal - 5
Iggy - 5
Martin - 5
Fluery - 5

Kunitz, Letang, Sutter all looking for raises...

I dont see it working.

Defensively we could add Sarich or Butler as shut down guys. Sarich is obviously the physical type, Butler not so much but he is a defense 1st guy. Either would be more of a #5 but Butler can be a decent #4 option.

I agree. If Iggy goes to Pitt it'll be for a 1yr playoff run only IMO.

I like it! If they did that, the Iginla Jerseys would go on sale for 50% off at the Fanattic after the trade! So i could get a new one half price, then be ready for next season when re returns!

Unless they buy someone out (Martin) in the summer. If we added Butler to a trade it may work.

But, I do think that if they were to win the cup Iggy would likely sign back with the Flames in the summer on a retirement contract. To me, that is the best case scenario; loan out Iggy, CGY gets solid pieces for future; Iggy wins cup; resigns with CGY and mentors pick-ups from trade; Iggy wins cup at age 41 with CGY

Reality sinks in....

I wouldn't mind Morrow or Derrick Pouliot but Maata seems too one demensional to me.
- saneopinion

One dimensional? Which way? Ive seen him play a lot with the knights and he is really, really solid. His defense is amazing and his offense is underrated as Hunter likes to use his d more for shutdown than offense. He doesnt get a crazy amount of pp time. Hes the real deal.

For something completely off topic, I like these lines! And it looks like Kipper will be in the Line-up; the only goalies practicing right now are Kipper and MacD.

Forwards:
Hudler - Cervenka - Iginla
Tanguay - Cammalleri - Beartschi
Glencross - Stajan - Stempniak
Jackman - Comeau/Begin - McGrattan
