He's old. The reason Canucks wont get much for Luongo is the same reason a team wont get a ton for Iggy. He's towards the end of his career.

Atleast in Luongos defence, goalies can easily play into there forties. But I just think Iggy has lost a step. And it doesnt help that he plays on a team that is so awful. Its probably making his talent level decrease even more.

None of this is meant to be a trolling comment. Simply an opinion. Calm down people.

the reason the canucks won't get anything for luongo is because he's a 5.5mil cap hit for the next three centuries.

Personally I think its too much. That would be fair 3 years ago. Buts his stock has gone waaayyy down. And they are not going to get the return for him that they're hoping.
- vancity787

I think you will be proven wrong. Iggy would bring a first and a prospect.

what happens after next year, when they need to resign malkin, kunitz, sutter, and the ENTIRE defense (assuming you buy out martin)....they have only 5 players signed beyond next season, and it accounts for like 40% of the cap. if you assume that malkin gets ATLEAST the same as he's making now, and another 7-8 for perry.....thats' 7 players taking up roughly 60% of your cap, and NOBODY signed on defense. i realize your gm is good, but he's not THAT good.
- sensarmy_11

No offense dude but if I had a dollar for every doom and gloom outlook the Pens have had I would be retired. Malkin , Crosby, and Staal would never work but the only reason he's gone is because family. We have a great GM in Shero and he's made it work when Hockeybuzz said it couldn't.

pitt can't afford perry, unless they just bring him in as a rental and let him walk at the end of the year.

in order to resign him, they'd need to let go of a lot of roster players, and basically run with 2/3 of their defense as rookies next year.

won't happen

- sensarmy_11

This!

They would end up with 25 + million locked in on 3 players. 35 mill for 5 players if you include Neal and Martin. 29 mill for the rest of the team? Wouldnt fit.

Sutter, Matta and a 1st.
- whipper334

That's too rich for my blood. No way I'd be giving up Sutter. That's stupidity if Shero did that. I'd also sooner trade Morrow than Matta. I think Morrow will be a good player, but I think Matta will be better.

No dice on that trade idea.

Luongo is not a hard player to deal, it's his conmtract that is the issue, not his age. Thanks for coming out though.

I saw that response coming from a mile away.

Anyways thats the way I look at it. I think Kipper will easily bring in a prospect and a first. Iggy on the other hand. Hmmmmm, we'll see...

Take off Sutter and this is a fair trade for both teams.

it's not "doom and gloom" to say that your team can't afford THREE 8+ million dollar players.....plus guys like letang, neal, fleury, etc.

the math just doesn't work....unless you want to have 6-7 good players, and then 15 one million dollar plugs

Well Feaster did think RoR was a #1 center, so target B.Sutter.

i would hope you did, since it's pretty much the ONLY reason that he has very little trade value

Also why I said NO I don't expect it to happen. You're not breaking any news about the Pens not being a great defensive team but it doesn't help that one of the best D-men (Despres) plays every 3rd game while depth defenseman get 20 minutes a night but you addressed that already too yesterday.
- lloyd095

It feels like I'm breaking news sometimes, everyone wants more offense. I just don't get every Pens fans infatuation with a winger for 87/71. They score more than enough, play defense. Despres is a 5/6 right now. He gets put in favorable situations and does well. He isn't a 2/3 yet. Their priorities should be bottom 6, and a 2/3 dman to play with Letang.

Yes I know it's too much. But when/if we are trading Iggy we may as well shoot for the moon.

Iggy at 80% of what he was is still better than allot of teams top guys at 100%. The other fact is that Iginla hasn't exactly had the supporting cast since, well ever. So imagine what he's capable of with the (real) #! center that the Flames have been after since 89 and a top winger on the other side?!

In all seriousness I don't see the Flames trading Iggy however. They'll be 2 points out come trade deadline and the stinkin' owners will Danny Deveto any possibility of a deal whether Feaster wants to trade him or not.

If Pit adds Iginla and potentially Jack Johnson, you might as well hand them the cup now.
- Lahey

Everybody says that but since they have won the cup I don't believe they made it passed the second round. Not a fan of them but they don't seem to succeed when they should lately.

Of course you seen it coming from a mile away, that's probably because it's absolutely true.... and Iggy gets a first and a prospect all day everyday

if the flames do decide to blow it up....which would obviously be the case if they move iggy.......what would it take to get bouwmeester to ottawa?

i'm assuming that they'd want bishop in any deal, to eventually replace kipper....but what else?

bishop, stone, 3rd?

gives calgary 2 very good and young palyers, plus a pick, and frees up over 6 mil in cap space. gives ottawa a good 2nd line PMD to play with cowen.

win win

- sensarmy_11

If CGY decides to move the core (Iggy, Kipper, JBo), it is imperative that they get at least 1 legitimate, NHL ready center that can play top 6, or at least has the potential to.

We are such a poorly built team. If we moved Iggy we are still over-loaded with wingers. We would still have in our top 9 Tanguay, Backlund, Iggy, Hudler, Stajan, Cervenka, Glencross, Baertschi, Stempniak. Out of those 9 players, only 2 are centers. We could and should also trade Cammi as I think Baertschi will take a larger scoring role next year.

Really solid post. I know that some Pens fans are all in on Despres, but they are assuming a lot for a guy who has played limited minutes.

even with those 2, i still think chicago and boston are better teams
- sensarmy_11

How about he goes to Chicago even if it for the year that make them devastating.
