That pretty much tells me you have never seen him play.

His physical stats dont tell the whole tale.

And he is actually 5'10 195.

- Trejetta

And at the NHL level? We need certain areas addressed now, not in a couple years.

THe question is whether or not he can continue to play that way at the pro level.

I suspect he ends up like a Clutterbuck, which is fine but I'll pass if we have a top 10 pick.

He's still below average NHL size. Our top-6 lacks a consistent guy that creates space for both himself and his linemates using a mix of size and skill. Having someone with the ability to physically intimidate could come in handy, too!

Geez, Clouts, so Eager falls very flat in your assessment but you're not going to play Brown over him or Petrell? Yes, yes you are. He does Eager's job better but won't put up the 15 points Eager will - not that he has. I believe he probably does Petrell's job better as well. Again, maybe not as good of a PK specialist but does kill penalties, does intimidate and has impact on the opposition. AND, he can play center.

Move #1 - Fine, buyout Horcoff once you have the replacement.

Move #2/3/4 - Who fukking cares about the draft.

Move #5 - sure, any of that Hemsky + prospect/pick + fecal cornucopia for a winger with jam (not necessarily size) or top four D would be great.

Your final note is perhaps the most important point one way or another: need to work a little magic at the Draft, in the UFA market or maybe even the TD. Hopefully they make the right decisions.

It was a suggestion for the second 1st round pick someone was looking to acquire. I thought he would be a good pick especially for a team that is not known for a strong physical game.

I think he is on the same mold as Callahan/Brown who are tough to play against and can put up points.

his game will translate well to the NHL.

WE shouldn't be acquiring a 2nd 1st, that's a step in the wrong direction. Unless it's something like our 2nd and PRV.

People put too much emphisis on height and not enough on size and strength.

I am willing to be he will be in the top of a lot of the combine results this year.

The kid is strong and I would love for him to drop but I see him going 11-14 range.

As for the Clutterbuck reference he is producing at a 1.34 ppg range in his draft year which is much higher then Cal's draft year production.

They play a similar style game but his upside is much higher

Not that excited about the LW free agent class this summer either though I do think Brendan Morrow is the perfect stop gap vet who brings a tonne. Leadership, jam, some scoring touch. The very definition of sheltering the kids and playing some tough minutes.

Ryan Clowe. I dunno, my whole mode right now---and I'll admit I've got the blinders on here---is bringing in guys from strong locker rooms or winners.

Is Ryan Clowe that guy?

fukk, Latendresse?

And the D class? Meh.
Ron Hainsey?
How is Regher playing - anyone know?

Youre correct that there is not much out there that is an improvment. And I take a pass on Morrow. World class dbag.

Why is LA trading anyone at this point? They look pretty good. With Quick coming along they'll be okay.
- Lahey

They might give us King + for Smid if their D continues to be injured and Smid remains unsigned. But short of a crummy deal for us and a rental for them, I don't see us being able to get anything important out of LA in a deal even if there's one to be had.

Clowe is scaring me, everytime I hear something about him it gets worse. Not sure I want to open up a 4-5 year deal with him come july 1st or 5th or whatever day.

Just sit back and watch Tambi work his magic and acquire all the best 4th liners and 3rd pairing guys in the NHL.

Unless PRV and a second gets a top 10 pick that is also a huge step back. He is finally starting to find his game, albeit not as a top 6. Only a handfull of guys drafted this year will have any sort of impact in the next couple years.

Well if the 3rd pairings are actual 3rd pairing guys, I'd be happy.

Wow.

You come across as the die-hard fan sitting at the bar wearing your 1980's team jersey.

When the team is winning you are planning the parade routes. When the team is losing you are proposing a dozen roster moves.

Nothing wrong with being a fan. Just not what I would expect from a blogger.

- maaddmike

Its exactly what you should expect. Fans want to know who is to blame when the wheels come off and want to sing praise when the team wins. Most of us regulars will be here either way but that is what drives the other traffic here and Clout knows how to drive traffic.

You may not agree with him but he can stir up a pile of ants like no other. He suckered leaf fans back in here to defend brown and frustrated oiler fans at the lack of anything our GM has done... EVER. It is tough seeing some of these guys out there like Sam trying to beat up a guy a half foot taller than him when you know, either way management doesn't care. They won't get the pieces needed to succeed and we will keep having to try to drink the Koolaid that our goalie is a starter when that is only true if he was in the AHL. Our Alchoholic, 40 year old back up (when he is not in prison or injured) is our best goalie.

Truth is we will draft high again next year and if it is not first then the oil will probably mess it up. Tamb wanted to pass on Nail last year and go with Murray. I don't know if anyone remembers murray anymore but he went second before going bust. Our second pick was ridiculous. I hope he was sleeping with someone in the family because that kid is not going anywhere near the NHL... ever. We LUCKED out on our third round. I think he went with funniest name left or something because he doesn't know how to identify skill. So we need our picks but we have a long history of screwing them up that dates back to the early 90s. We have done good with our first overalls and we got gagner, who everyone hates. Other than that we are less than 50/50.

You know what - this will fukking happen and it will suck. I'm in a pessimistic place.

I live in Toronto and now I think Kadri is better then all our young talent.

It's getting pretty bad.

I'd like to take a chance on Chris Stewart. I think his contract will be a bit more manageable. I just hate to lock into a 5 year deal with a power forward that is 29 and has been on a downward turn.
