Gagner is your number one, and I offered up our #2 center as a replacement for what you are losing. Plus you get to reunite Gards with Schultz. - Holy_Makinaw99
Pfft
You haven't watched an Oilers game since the start of the 2011-12 season, have you? Just because Nuge is suffering from an offenisve slump, it doesn't mean he's any less our #1 (both now and in the future). When Duchene struggled last year, was he suddenly no longer the Avs' #1C and, as such, an expendable piece? No! Gags has been great and all, but he is our 2nd and will be unless a miracle occurs. |

I have never replied to any of your blogs before, I do quite often see where you are coming from, and once in awhile I think you are way of base, but hey, that is what makes sports fun, arguing points of views.
I will disagree with you on the Brown deal and here is why. What is one thing the Oiler's need (besides a big physical center and tough winger)? A guy that can change the momentum of a game with a big hit, or by beating the crap out of somebody, something they were hoping Eager would do, but hasn't been able to.
You must have this type of guy or you will not succeed. Every top team has that guy, and the Oiler's do not. If you watched any of the games he played in he was that energy guy that got the players and the fans pumped up when the game looked like it was starting to get away from them.
When I look at your proposed lines for next year, they still don't have that guy. This is going to be a great pick up and a cheap price to pay for it.
I do like your thoughts on bringing in Neno from the Isle's.
Here are the two trades I want to see, either before the deadline or in the offseason.
1. Hemsky, Jones, and first for Mike Richards. Kings need playmakers, they have the workhorses and finishers but need a playmaker with speed, Jones is a Sutter type guy, but those two alone won't get it done.
2.With Richard's that means Gagner is gone, so Gagner, Lander, Eager, and either one of Smid, Petry, or Nick Schultz to the Isle for Neno, Bailey and Streit.
Hall, RNH, Ebs
Yaks, Richards, Neno
Paajarvi, Bailey, Hartikanen
Smyth, Brown, Horcoff (if not bought out then a random FA) and Petrell
J. Schultz-Streit
N. Schultz- Klefbom
Petry- Fistric
Potter, Marincin
Goaltending...who knows, depends on how Dubnyk finishes the year. - therake
Way overpayment for the Oilers. You know what he went to LA for right? |

Wayne Simmonds, Brayden Schenn, and a 2nd. If anything, it's an underpayment. |

Landeskog sure would look good in this team's top 6... Instantly the best all round player on this team right now... May not have the same speed of hall or the laser like Ebs or the crisp passing of Nuge- but he has overall skill and hits like a (frank)ing truck...He is never invisible in a game...Further he is just as young or younger and did not get sheltered as much as our oilers did... maybe the others have a higher ceiling but Landeskog delivers in the here and now... - saskoil21

Nuge is a great center. He is going to be great for years to come if he stays healthy. He is not Gretzky however. He was the first choice in a weird draft year where the first round picks were all over the place.
The Oilers defense is suspect because of the wingers not properly holding their assignments. The outlet pass you speak of can not happen if you wingers are at centre when the defense go to pass. When hemmed in their own zone they need to drop lower on the boards and help their Dmen chip it out. Hasn't happened. Not saying your D is norris applicable but it is not as bad as one thinks. You're young wingers need to be more defensively responsible. You should never have 2 Dmen behind the goal line unless starting a rush uncontested. If you require backup for your D behind the redline your centre pinches down to assist.
Some of you older guys are not performing which could be the rift about the defensive play of your young superstars. First round draft picks usually get cught up in the hype of the media, and first overall picks can be worse. The coach and the veterans must be able to do their job and make these kids understand that the game is not all about offense. Kadri was in this mold the first couple years, with the media telling him how gifted he was and that he should be playing. He should have but he had to learn to make proper decsions and that he hadn't earned anything yet at an NHL level.
Goaltending is ok for you guys but looks bad because the D game being played by your forwards.
I think you'll need a superstar for 2 young superstar deal to get good. The offensive guys would listen to a Datsuyk type player more than their 3rd and 4th line veterans. Obviously not giving Smyth much listening. |

I dont think you are far off there... The kids have learned to take shifts off, and appear lazy and disinterested at times during games esp. when losing much like our vets... maybe Hall is the exception... |

I don't think many should be shocked that Landeskog is the better player now. He was more physically mature going into the draft and his first season. |

Why is LA trading anyone at this point? They look pretty good. With Quick coming along they'll be okay. |

You guys would benefit from a guy like Max Domi.
I think he becomes a Callahan type player who does it all. 50-55 point range and is a female dog to play against.
|
|
|
|
WTF a 3 way tie for 14th spot in the west... A loss here would safely secure our lotto potential and considering how well Columbus has played against some good teams of late (namely taking Dallas and Chi to OT and beating the wings) our odds are favorable for the loss.. Bobrovsky is stealing them games or keeping them damn close... A team with no confidence- underachieving vs a team with nothing to lose... |

That pretty much tells me you have never seen him play.
His physical stats dont tell the whole tale.
And he is actually 5'10 195. |
