You make this trade so that the Oilers young guys can have somebody in their dressing room that plays with heart. Maybe some will rub off.

I think you'd be surprised what a guy like Brown can bring, not in his personal numbers of course but in terms of team toughness. It's something that can't be underestimated in today's game, he's done a great job with the Leafs, a younger team that needed some guidance. He's not gonna get you into the playoffs singlehandedly but he'll make the games a little easier for the top line guys.

a few peeps I'd love to see in edm next season.

elias - ufa and a no brainer what hed add to the line up

streit - was sad to see him leave mtl great puck mover wiked shot. not sure tho on durability.

backstrom - edm would be smart to have a guy like him to share the load, another ufa

corvo, hainsey or ferrance. all ufas and baring hainsey have great experience. they add toughness and stability to the back end.

you add some grit and experience by adding players like that. managemt is goimg have to step up

You really over value Lander. He is years off of being NHL ready if ever.

Truth be told all our Euro "prospects" are failing.

MP is looking decent right now but really isn't NHL worthy in my mind. He is the best of the bunch.

Harti looked like he was more than ready to step in but really hasn't produced anough to say he should have a roster spot this year.

And Lander has played sub par all year long in the AHL. He is not going to all of a sudden bust out in the NHL and end up being anything. This kids upper limit is a #3 center 5 years down the road.

you never trade your 1C unless you've got another one, or you're getting one in return.
- TheNugeIsHuge

Gagner is your number one, and I offered up our #2 center as a replacement for what you are losing. Plus you get to reunite Gards with Schultz.

Tambo is softer than a snuggie ( and probably as effective as it too), i'd take Burke... At least he has balls.

I understand fans frustration but lets keep a few things in mind.

Number one, he hasn't traded away the future to satisfy fan demands for immediate marginal success. He has assembled a good core of youngsters and as they mature and improve he will have assets both players and picks to add the players with the lacking skill sets.

I get impatient as well but one of the crucial elements in building a championship team is lessons the players learn. Slow steady improvement and over coming adversity along the way builds character in the players and will pay dividends in future years.

While everyone wants Tambo to make a splashy deal it takes another team to make that happen. Edmonton will be in a better position approaching the deadline when teams decide to trade prospects and picks for their push to the cup.

Do you guys really think the Oilers bottom six are going to be trade able to a better team landing them a top six player with size or a top four dman?

Unless Tambo trades one of the young guns he won't land a true difference maker because you have to give quality to get quality.

So lets be patient a bit longer. As he showed today he's willing to make a move when the opportunity presents itself. While it wasn't an earth shattering acquisition it does improve team toughness, speed and Brown is a relentless forechecker and can be effective on the PK.

Perhaps at the deadline he can make another move that adds a role player or some team will over pay for Whitney or Hemsky.

The Oilers should have a realistic shot at a player like Shaun Monahan who, given the 67's unloaded the surrounding talent to rebuild, is having a monster year in Ottawa.

Slow and steady wins the race. Tambellini has been at the helm since 2008 and this will complete five seasons. Next year is going to be an important year. The kids will all have one more year of experience. The defencemen in OKC will have matured. A good draft and a few key free agent signings and this young Oiler team could be set up for a great season in 2013/2014.

Really don't see Elias leaving NJ at this point.

No to money on goaltending, at least for this summer.

Streit, Corvo, Hainsey and ferrance all good possibilities. Unfortunately they're at junctures in their careers that they're probably looking for a cup run. Overpaying on role players would be deadly for the Oilers in their rebuild.

I think it's time to acquire a dman by trade.

I have never replied to any of your blogs before, I do quite often see where you are coming from, and once in awhile I think you are way of base, but hey, that is what makes sports fun, arguing points of views.
I will disagree with you on the Brown deal and here is why. What is one thing the Oiler's need (besides a big physical center and tough winger)? A guy that can change the momentum of a game with a big hit, or by beating the crap out of somebody, something they were hoping Eager would do, but hasn't been able to.
You must have this type of guy or you will not succeed. Every top team has that guy, and the Oiler's do not. If you watched any of the games he played in he was that energy guy that got the players and the fans pumped up when the game looked like it was starting to get away from them.
When I look at your proposed lines for next year, they still don't have that guy. This is going to be a great pick up and a cheap price to pay for it.
I do like your thoughts on bringing in Neno from the Isle's.
Here are the two trades I want to see, either before the deadline or in the offseason.
1. Hemsky, Jones, and first for Mike Richards. Kings need playmakers, they have the workhorses and finishers but need a playmaker with speed, Jones is a Sutter type guy, but those two alone won't get it done.
2.With Richard's that means Gagner is gone, so Gagner, Lander, Eager, and either one of Smid, Petry, or Nick Schultz to the Isle for Neno, Bailey and Streit.

Hall, RNH, Ebs
Yaks, Richards, Neno
Paajarvi, Bailey, Hartikanen
Smyth, Brown, Horcoff (if not bought out then a random FA) and Petrell

J. Schultz-Streit
N. Schultz- Klefbom
Petry- Fistric
Potter, Marincin

Goaltending...who knows, depends on how Dubnyk finishes the year.

what about jones. The guy needs to be resigned. A total joke if they trade him or let him go. Just to rub it in their faces he'll end up with Calgary just like glencross. They need gritty players like him and you say trade him - I'm baffled right now.
- Springman75

Jones is a cheap 3/4th line guy. He is the type any team goes for. He was injured so he will probably resign cheap, there would be no benefit to trading him and no one to replace him with at his price with what he brings to the table in terms of energy, grit and the ability for some offense.

However I do agree that Brown, however much the fans might like a tough guy, was pointless. 5'11 200 lbs, 120 hits last season? Sounds like... our top 6 players with the exception that our top 6 also have talent. Now if they put a guy from with MMA training on skates or brought Laraque back, I would be okay with him being 5'11 with as many checks as Hemsky. We traded for Toronto's 4th best goon. Nicely played. We are ready for the cup now.

I couldn't agree more with everything except dealing jones. I would deal Petrell instead of Jones. Guy does everything you could ask of a bottom 6 winger.

Dude, eager has 40 hits in 12 or so games. Next smyth is the leading scorer of all the bottom six players and he's been forced into a defencive role plus he won't score unless he's got rebounds to bang in. Pray tell me whos shooting the puck on his line. He's around the net plenty problem is the pucks never there. They had zero shots in the 2nd against the wild zero, does that mean anything to you? It's not just the bottom six its the top lines too. Lastly the brown trade is not pointless, it improves the oilers toughness whitch they lacked badly. Put him on a line with eager and they'll crash and bang like demons. Whats pointless is just trading guys because Richard doesn't like them. THats pointless.

120 hits in 50 games is a lot, and no offense to your top 6, but I highly doubt any of them hit as hard as he does. I don't think they get that many hits in a season do they? Maybe 3 of them combined? In any case, he's a good player, and for a 4th, it's basically getting him for nothing.
