i'd take a chance on him or clarkson. 2-3 year deals, no longer.
- deks1

So would I. Problem is some knob is going to give them 5 year deals.

King+? That plus better be huge.
- Lahey

Well, I meant more in the sense that he'd be the named asset they'd be willing to give up. The plus might be a 2nd or even a 1st, and thus more valuable.

I may be talking out of my ass, but I gotta figure a team like LA when healthy doesn't need much, and right now just needs healthy dmen. Maybe you catch Lombardi off guard (as Tambs seems to be good at doing ) and you get him to take Whitney for King and a smaller plus, but given that they're not looking to make any moves, I dunno if you legitimately can pry even role players away from them.

Clouts seems to think Smid is on the outs, but by now he's one of the longest serving Oilers and I'd say that if there's any chance he re-signs, we won't even think about moving him.

Considering they'd probably get 5 at 5 offers from a couple of desperate teams, they'd have to have a Justin Schultz-level interest in the Oilers to take fewer years (and less $$)

Clarkson would be a good pickup but someone is going to over pay massively for his inflated numbers.

If I'm moving Smid i want more than a borderline 3rd liner. I have to think we should be able to get a physical center or something.

I sooner see if Abeldkater who is taking draws and is way more aggressive is available.

I have never replied to any of your blogs before, I do quite often see where you are coming from, and once in awhile I think you are way of base, but hey, that is what makes sports fun, arguing points of views.
I will disagree with you on the Brown deal and here is why. What is one thing the Oiler's need (besides a big physical center and tough winger)? A guy that can change the momentum of a game with a big hit, or by beating the crap out of somebody, something they were hoping Eager would do, but hasn't been able to.
You must have this type of guy or you will not succeed. Every top team has that guy, and the Oiler's do not. If you watched any of the games he played in he was that energy guy that got the players and the fans pumped up when the game looked like it was starting to get away from them.
When I look at your proposed lines for next year, they still don't have that guy. This is going to be a great pick up and a cheap price to pay for it.
I do like your thoughts on bringing in Neno from the Isle's.
Here are the two trades I want to see, either before the deadline or in the offseason.
1. Hemsky, Jones, and first for Mike Richards. Kings need playmakers, they have the workhorses and finishers but need a playmaker with speed, Jones is a Sutter type guy, but those two alone won't get it done.
2.With Richard's that means Gagner is gone, so Gagner, Lander, Eager, and either one of Smid, Petry, or Nick Schultz to the Isle for Neno, Bailey and Streit.

Hall, RNH, Ebs
Yaks, Richards, Neno
Paajarvi, Bailey, Hartikanen
Smyth, Brown, Horcoff (if not bought out then a random FA) and Petrell

J. Schultz-Streit
N. Schultz- Klefbom
Petry- Fistric
Potter, Marincin

Goaltending...who knows, depends on how Dubnyk finishes the year.

- therake

why start now

trade your leading score for a midget swiss miss defenceman, a swiss miss that can't make your roster and a 3rd line center

i think whitney at the moment is only worth king himself. i would even consider that deal if that's an open option now.

I'd like to take a chance on Chris Stewart. I think his contract will be a bit more manageable. I just hate to lock into a 5 year deal with a power forward that is 29 and has been on a downward turn.
- Lahey

Ya I've got interest in Stewart. Hmm, does COL have interest in Hemsky? that seems like a bot of an overpay but I'd still be interested. Risky but could pay the dividends needed.

I'd be okay with it, even if Hemsky is offensively the better player. Stewart brings an element we desire.

Boychuk awarded to NSH from PIT. Pit places Kostopoulos and Wsh places Hamrlik on #NHL waivers.

It's an interesting situation.

I'd take a chance, but I will say this I will not be shocked if he is worse than what we have.

Ya, right or wrong they probably think Potter is better at this point. Not saying much but could be true.

Hey at this point $hit I don't care - take a flyer on him though they may end up waiving him too once Fistric gets back otherwise you'd have like 9 D again.

Strange people talking about Jack Johnson going to Pitts... are they left with nothing but picks from that Carter trade??

Me too for sure. Especially if we can pick up Hamirlik off of waivers to fill whatever void Whitney might leave behind.

Does anyone know whether Petrell or Brown play centre at all? VV is a complete non-factor right now.

So you're saying you finish 4th or 5th last and draft Barkov.

An 18 year old Barkov comes in from Europe and makes your team as your 3rd line centre.

That. Right there. Is why you're team isn't winning. Another 18 year old "saviour." Time to leave this pick there and let them develop properly for once.

Hall and Nugent-Hopkins might as well be wearing hospital gowns everywhere they go, they weren't physically prepared for the rigours of a long NHL season in a tough western conference. Still don't look like they are.

You can tell the difference between the young guns and Eberle and J. Schultz, just from the couple extra years of developing. You guys will be a great team one day but these players are taking a beating.

stl has arnott training and skating with them due to a few injuries to steen and macdonald. i think they can use hemsky, but they have a few puck wizards in their lineup.

EDM media were saying Brown has and can play center.

EDIT: so yeah to your point and I hear ya - could be time to send VV down

Hmm, wonder if EDM is even interested or if St. Lu would be. Furthermore, if Hitchcock had any say is Hemsky his guy.

Gotta say, Hemsky could be a nice compliment to that team.

Try and snag Brian Boyle out of NY and run Eager/Boyle/Brown (Petrell)
