Mike Brown hit Josh Georges from the side into the boards a week ago and got a major and a game. I wouldn't bother trying to make sense of how the refs are making calls this year.

The punishment for that should have been flipped for the one he got on the Gorges hit. Refs have been bad in every aspect this year.

I've watched the replay several; times. and I gotta say:

1-Richards looks back and sees Kaleta is after him, and should expect something
2-the amount of contact in this hit was ALMOST NILL
3-I see hits FAR worse than this occur in every single contest, and say to myself "boy, THAT should've been a penalty"...and they aren't even called for 2 minutes, let alone 5 games
4-It looks like Richards' legs are going down toward the ice before the "hit" even comes
5-Why isn't the hit on Ennis late in the 3rd deserving of a suspension?

Reputation carries far too much weight when it comes to discipline in this league IMO.

A hockey player who sees someone coming after him, and then turns his back should be ready for a hit....Kaleta barely even nudges Richards on this one. Undeniable.

He didn't "turn is back", in the way you obviously (incorrectly) see it. The puck bounced over to the boards, he had to go retrieve it and I'm fairly sure a good number of NHL players don't skate backwards to go pick up loose pucks. As far as the "he should have been ready for a hit" comment..no, he shouldn't have. Getting hit from behind at all from that distance is completely illegal. That's indisputable. In that situation the responsibility is 110% on Kaleta to not do something ridiculously dangerous. The fact that you're placing any of the blame on Richards is completely absurd.

Doesn't take a lot of force to paralyze someone when they're moving like that. Just ask Travis Roy.
