I think this might be the longest i've ever seen one thread remain on a single topic.
for what it's worth, my take is:
- kaleta made a dirty and dangerous hit, and is a repeat offender, 5 game suspension well deserved. i think most sabre fans agreed with this, and the ones who didn't are being a little homerish
- richards milked it for all it was worth in order to draw a 5 minute penalty. hell, even karlsson, after getting his achilles sliced in half, tried to get back up and skate instead of flopping around on the ice like a fish out of water. any ranger fans who think that richards reaction was about 90% acting, in order to get the 5 mil PP, are being naive and very homerish. i can understand being a little shocked and laying on teh ice for a few seconds, but once you realize you aren't hurt, like richards no doubt did, you get up and skate off. you don't spend 3 hours on the ice with the trainer (probably both laughing under their breath) going over every body part you have to make sure you don't have a boo boo - sensarmy_11
Agreed on all parts. Especially with the Karlsson point. Erik Karlsson is a man. Richards is a whiny little girl |

You don't understand. All New York Ranger fans became neurologists over night and know exactly how your body reacts and recovers to hitting the boards |

No on Stastny, Gagne I guess has been a good 2 way player this year. How does he fit in though? |

The embellishment you are speaking of could be eliminated if the NHL took out injuries as one of the variables of suspension. Patrick Kaleta's suspension should have been the same if Richard's was KO'd or if he popped right back up.
Using injury as a variable is too much of a wild card. The same dangerous hit you want out of the game could leave a guy paralyzed, or the player could get right back up, its a crap shoot. The attacking players are still taking the chance that the player they are hitting will get back up. If they knew they were going to be suspended regardless, you would see more of a change in the risk taking of the attacking player. |

i agree with everything you say....except that i think the embellishment will still occur, as players are trying to draw penalties, not suspensions. |

Perhaps but its a start in the right direction. The hits I am talking about the penalty will be pretty obvious on its own without the need for embellishment to get the call. |

Gagne plays C/RW so his speed would help on the Ennis and Foligno line. |

if it was a minor. it was still a 5 on 3, and the Rangers still score twice.
do we understand this? I think this was explained about 30 times yesterday - jimbro83
Are you dumb? Teams react different to a 5 minute major and a 2 minute minor. Who knows if you guys score 2 goals on the 5 on 3 with the mindset that the hit was a 2 minute penalty. Ever hear of the butterfly affect? |
