Bingo! Because Sabres fans don't think it should be a suspension, let alone a major penalty.
In my opinion, any questionable hit like this one or hits to the head, regardless of intent, should come with suspensions. If you crack down on it, even accidental hits will disappear because players would know they need to be careful with their actions. I'm not saying take out the hitting, just take out the vicious and dangerous ones. - gravey914
so your also calling for dan girardi to be suspended? |
|
|
|
Per what the league is trying to crack down on, dangerous hits/plays etc., this is suspension worthy. Having Kaleta attached to it definitely adds fuel to the fire because of his game play and history. Not a dive by Richards, but he did seem like he was severely hurt and I was surprised to see him back out on the Powerplay 2 minutes later. Dumb play by Kaleta, and I think unnecessary is the word to describe it. |

Nope. I'm just wondering how torts can call it "the dirtiest hit he's seen" or anyone can justify the equally dangerous hit on ennis - Putzfrau

He definitely tapped him. And I feel like that's a place where a 'tap' shouldn't be allowed to occur. Him crashing into the boards the way he did is evidence enough of that. It should be removed from the game. Suspend him for 5 or so and let the league know. - OnPoint
This...
All embellishment, intent, and player history aside, this hit is exactly what the NHL is trying to remove from the game. |

He tapped him. What people fail to realize is if Kaleta really wanted to hurt him , he could have. He tapped him, just a bad position Richards put himself in. Half of that play is on Richards for putting himself in that position.
Nothing dirty about it, nothing! - BuffaloHardHat
What I fail to realize is why a player should refrain from trying to play a puck during a power play for fear that some schmuck will "tap" him sending him face first into the wall. I thought the point was to try to play that little round rubber object on the ice and put it into the opposing goal? Guess the players need to start treating this like demolition derby and prepare themselves to get hit from all sides at any time. In fact, they should just take the puck off the ice and treat the players like bumper cars. |

Do you see us justifying the hit Girardi put on Ennis? Although I think ennis put himself in a bad position and went down easily....... |

i think the difference between the hits is that richards was 5 feet away from the boards and cross checked up high so his head is pivoted into the boards as the main source of contact. with ennis, he was closer to the boards and got hit hard into it more than get his neck crushed.
as far as the dirtiest hit of all time comment...are you seriously taking that literally? torts was emotional and could only go on what he saw live in the game. |

Look I dislike like the Ragngers as much as anyone, but aside from Richards toe-picking a little bit, this shove (though I don't believe was intentful) is timed poorly and is a prime example of boarding in todays game is and does deserve a suspension. I don't think he embellished either. He got jammed up pretty good. |

Yes I have. Maybe not you specifically, but several have. The post game on MSG did nothing but justify it. They called it a "hockey hit" almost a dozen times. |

A punk move by a major punk - Kaleta. The guy is the stereotype of why people are upset that the Instigator rule is not done away with. He runs around cheap shotting people but never backs it up with a fight. Just a cowardly little weasel.
Glad to see he cost his team the game last night. |

No it's suspension worthy. No doubt it was a dirty play. Kaleta deserves a suspension, he's a dirtball on the ice. My point is that Richards is a girl who should play soccer. I honestly thought he was seriously hurt. If he misses a game I will be suprised and take back everything I say. |

I agree. How dare Brad Richards attempt to play that puck where it was joined with the fact that he had to skate to it from his previous spot on the ice. Definitely half his fault.
I didn't think the hit was all that forceful, but there are 2 things that I want to point out:
1) It was a cross-check to the back, not a hip/shoulder check
2) When Kaleta made contact, he was aware that Richards was in a dangerous, defenseless position, which mitigated the force needed to throw Richards down.
To me, whether or not there's an injury, you have a repeat offender who committed a non-hockey play to a player who was in a severely vulnerable situation. To me, the intent is more important than the result.
Let's say that Richards got right up and was fine. Does that make it okay, meaning that it's okay to do it all the time? No, and that's why I'd give him 3 games based solely on his actions, not the results. |

I can only hope he hit a bad patch of ice. That was almost disastrous but I wouldn't have been surprised had the game been decided on that play given how crazy the 3rd period and OT were. |
