I know my previous posts have been in favor of going after Jack Johnson, but I changed my mind over night. I don't believe his the missing piece we need. A guy like Hal Gil or Rob Scuderi would be ideal. Jack Johnson has posted a positive +/- in his career once. Def. not the partner Letang needs for us to be a legitimate threat at defense.

No he hasnt. He was a +5 for a twenty game stretch with Columbus when he first arrived. His -12 with LA earlier that same season leaves him at a -7.

You guys should look at getting Hainsey and O`byrne... qualtiy shut down guys. Physical.. penalty killers... and could probably be had for something fairly reasonable. UFAs.. on teams not making the playoffs.

Would be solid pick ups... looking for a little more offense? maybe try and pry visnovsky out of NYI.

Not sure. And not overall defensively. Just that our GAA would be lower if we had a defenseman who played better defense. Letang has been a bit of a wild card this year. He adds a lot offensively (more so 5 on 5). His defense has just been lacking at times.

Jack Johnson is garbage. He helps the power play, but we are third in the league already. He brings a physical element, but big deal - what does a physical element bring if you are a poopty on the defensive side. To me, he is an offensive minded Luke Schenn, who I think sucks.

Mark Madden's demeanor is boorish and embarrassing but his hockey thought process is usually somewhat on track and most times pretty good. I don't think he could be more wrong in this case.

Yesterday Mark Madden was all about getting jack johnson even if it was for despres. He kept saying this is a NOW team. However i dont agree with it being for despres, but i kinda agreed with him about the other D prospects we have a couple of them should be traded for now players because we should be winning cups now. I wouldnt mind if morrow or maata or whatever other D prospect was traded for good pieces, because most likely how many of them are we actually gonna use? 2 maybe? Even if you trade 2 of them you still have doumolin, pouilot, harrington. I'd trade 2 of those 5.

One thing about Mark Madden, he picks his favorite players and believes the whole team should revolve around that player. If you ever hear of his rants about how the Steelers mishandle Big Ben, you'd understand why he want's JJ here.

Madden would want JJ here because he's good friends with Sid.....not because JJ is a great upgrade. While I agree they need to win now, I don't agree that JJ is "the" missing element. The Pens would be foolish to bring on that contract before they start negotiations with Malkin and Letang. Thankfully Ray Shero isn't worried about bringing in "friends" to make a player happy. If he's worried about having happy players, he should ask his coach why he benched his world class goalie in his home town.

I listen on occasion simply because he focuses on the Pens. The channel gets changed the minute he starts berating people.
