I'll say this about Johnson he has laid out some pretty solid hits over his career. Maybe he can play on Sid's wing? |

They didn't bring him up, he was on a PTO, and basically signed him to keep him the rest of the season. But, once he was signed, he had to go through waivers to get back to WBS. If they signed him and put him on the NHL roster (like Eaton), he wouldn't need waivers. |

ohh I see thanks for the response
so pens scouts didnt do a good job knowing NJD wanted more 4th liners, too busy with the johnson for despres trade rumors |

It was a two-way deal and I believe Eatons was an NHL deal. I tend to think the only wanted him in Pitt if it were dire need other wise he was prefered to be in WBS. His play didnt merit a Pitt roster spot. For NJ its a better deal than our claiming of Boychuck. In TKost, they get alot of experience at low cost, I would tend to think that even if NJ waived him again someone would be interested in claiming him again as well. |

Zach Sill is a far better replacement for Glass than TKost and he is deserving of a call up as well. |

I dont think its Pens scouts fault. And I'm sure Kostopolous is happy. He gets prorated 600k for the time hes in the NHL. Either play in WBS or play on an NHL roster and get paid. Win win. |

Yesterday Mark Madden was all about getting jack johnson even if it was for despres. He kept saying this is a NOW team. However i dont agree with it being for despres, but i kinda agreed with him about the other D prospects we have a couple of them should be traded for now players because we should be winning cups now. I wouldnt mind if morrow or maata or whatever other D prospect was traded for good pieces, because most likely how many of them are we actually gonna use? 2 maybe? Even if you trade 2 of them you still have doumolin, pouilot, harrington. I'd trade 2 of those 5. |

Im sure Bylsma will keep Engelland in for his "physicality factor" even though it serves little purpose. |

ya well we see how that worked out with sitting despres...
would a nisk and jeffrey plus a pick get johnson? I just dont think they should move despres and only time I would say yes to a letang trade if ryan or eberle is coming back... |

Mark Madden's demeanor is boorish and embarrassing but his hockey thought process is usually somewhat on track and most times pretty good. I don't think he could be more wrong in this case.
You want to know who Jack Johnson is?
Ryan freaking Whitney. Both American, both pass the initial eye test as having skill, both severely overrated. |

Im not saying i want JJ and agree with you. Im just more on the train of trading 2-3 of these D prospects if it can make this team better now. |

Thats totally incorrect, Jack Johnson would instantly be the most physical Dman on our team. Was Ryan Whitney that? No. Not to mention Ryan Whitney has a long track record of being lazy, once again something that Jack Johnson does not have.
Im against trading Despres 100%, that kid is going to be a great NHLer.
Jack Johnson would be a nice upgrade to our D-core, but not at the risk of losing Letang or Despres. |

You either have an extraordinarily low opinion of the D on this team or you haven't seen Johnson play much. Physical is definitely one thing he is not. |

This is exactly how I feel. I'm not at all implying that our playoff window is closing, but it certainly isn't going to get any more open than it is right now. Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Kunitz, Niskanen and Letang are all pretty much in their prime, Cooke, Dupuis, Martin, and Orpik aren't getting any younger, and Fleury is either in his prime or close. It's great that we have a boatload of quality D-prospects, but some of these guys won't be ready for top 4 NHL minutes for another 3 years. I don't know about you, but if we don't win again in the next 3 years I will always say, "Man, it really feels like we should have had another cup between 2010 and 2016."
Jack Johnson is one of the better D-men in the league and if he could be had for two of our promising (but unproven) prospects then I would gladly make that trade. By the time some of our younger prospects are truly NHL ready Kunitz, Dupuis, and Orpik will probably all be on the decline physically. We need defensive depth now.
A lot of people on this board don't seem to appreciate that trades like Gogo for Nisk/Neal are VERY rare and that you have to give to get. I am still seeing things like TK and a 3rd for Iginla, or Vitale, Jeffrey, and TK for a Top 4 Dman. More often than not trades feel more like the Staal trade. To successfully trade for an established D-man of Johnson's caliber it's going to sting a little. If Johnson or someone similar is truly on the table, I say we go for it. Give me a little sting. |

He's just as physical as Letang, and probably more physical than Orpik has been this season. |

The conclusion I have drawn is that you post to seek attention. You won't find that attention from me past this post. |
