I got 5 notifications from the NHL app about this.

I have Edmonton and Toronto listed as my teams, so that accounts for 2... why the (frank) did I get the other 3?

Mike Brown traded for picks....

LOL.

Why is that funny? What else would he be traded for?

so with Brown's trade, that leaves 1 more move required for Lupes to return.
Many options but the following most likely:

1. Holzer is sent back to Mariles. This makes the most sense from a roster management perspective, but wonder if RC is willing to let Liles/Komi back into the lineup at this time.

2. Steckel waived/traded for late round pick. I like this possibility the most, as he only provides limited value to fill in for injuries at this point. I would rather give kids like Hamilton, Colborne the experience if needed in injury situations.

3. Lilies/Komi somehow traded. Don't see this happening, as buying Komi out in the summer is the best move to free up cap space, as they would be required to keep some of his salary in any trade he is involved in. Also still like Liles as a veteran presence and able to fill in for injuries.

Matt Frattin > Mike Brown. That's why bother.
- Deeps27

More accurately it's a question of Brown or McLaren. I'll take McLaren, he actually scares people.

No one is comparing the two.

You're aware of roster limits? You were the one wondering why bother trading Brown...it should be pretty obvious with who is coming back from sick bay why they grabbed an asset for a guy that plays a limited role.

Holzer signed a one-way, wouldn't he be subject to waivers? Don't think they'd risk losing him...

This. I said it a few weeks ago. Brown is a redundant player. If you want a fighter then take a massive guy who can take on anyone (i.e. fighting John Scott) and scares people. Brown being in the lineup actually makes the bigger fighters on the Leafs useless because pussies like Crombeen, Prust, etc. will always spotpick and try to fight him every time. He also took so many stupid penalties recently whereas Mclaren hasn't taken a minor penalty all season IIRC.

Waivers are based on age and games played, one way deals just mean you make the same amount of money if sent down the AHL. 2 way means you make less if you're not on the NHL roster.

The type of contract (one way / two way) is only about the salary a player is getting in each league NHL/AHL.

EDIT: Sorry I see it's been answered but I'll leave it here for clarity because it's been brought up over and over again.

the one way contract doesnt expose him to waivers.

all that means is he makes the same in the AHL as he does the NHL.

he can go up and down, only d-man the leafs have who can do so without exposure to waivers

I'm laughing because everyone keeps waiting for a Dman to be moved.

Then bam...Nonis gets Edmonton to give us a pick (Conditional) for a dude I presumed would be placed on waivers.

He's a great team mate...but like Dozzer said earlier...he's a fourth liner with wheels. We have tons of those.

I wish him well but I won't miss him.

He wouldn't have added much to a "package". Take whatever you'd get for the other guy you're trading and add a 4th to it.

yeah that works too....just waiting on Nonis to move bodies and this is a slightly underwhelming start. Guess they can't all be fireworks!

It's because the leafs have enough fighters and so far this season Orr and McLaren have been better at doing the other stuff involved in Hockey than Brown has.
