I didn't fully know what to expect. Great rookie year, struggled last year. Just really fighting the puck.

I thought he would be a quality NHL starting goalie.

Just from the games I have seen, his biggest issue is confidence, not talent.

Do you think he's been bad or his defense isn't very good either? The games that I have seen him play he's been average at best. Lacking confidence is a good description. Most of the battle is between the ears for a goaltender.

The defnse hasn't helped him a whole lot, but he's lunging at shots. That's usually the sign of a goalie who needs confidence in his game.

You consider read a core forward? I'd consider g,Simmonds, checky, schenn, cooter, hartnell my core. Most teams are lucky to have 3 or 4 young really good youNg core players with star potential. We have 6. If I had to trade one for cap reasons like gagne or for upgrade in goal or defense in a package deal read would be the first of that core bunch I'd trade so yeah I consider read a luxury. Do you disagree with this? Who do you consider read is more of a core player or wouLd trade before read
- SMS4016

I would judge any potential trade as I always do. Does it make the team better and does it make sense. Yes, I absolutely consider Read a core forward. Doesn't mean I wouldn't trade him or any other player in the right deal. And I also realize that there isn't a limit on core players. You did everything but explain why Read would be you're choice to trade. Other then the vague description that Read is a "luxury"!

He only lead the team in goals before he got hurt. I see no issue trading him for an unproven starting goalie.

When Bernier gets the empty net goal I'll drive Read to Philly International. Cars warming up.

I think people need to start to think in the cap world. Teams can't afford in cap world to put these great rosters together. If we have to pay the players I mentioned plus improve d there's no way we can pay that. Look at staal in pit. I love the type of player read is ( more so if he was physical) but sorry the upside on those other players is way higher.

I'll start thinking it the cap world. So...uh, Yeah... Moving the most cap friendly player we have is probably not the best way to start.

Do you realize that if the Flyers simply bought out Briere and re-signed Rinaldo, Wellwood and Gustafsson, as well as Gagne, they'd have over $6.6mm in cap room, while carrying Chris Pronger on the roster?

They'd need to add another forward and a back-up goalie, with that, but still, that's about $5mm left over, before even touching the $5mm in LTIR relief for Pronger.

If you want to beat the cap space drum, go to cap geek and use the calculators available. Otherwise, you're really just talking out of your ass.

When I suggest trades or other moves, I go to capgeek and work out the numbers.

Soo ... Yeah... Ummm... You'd rather wait til all contracts are coming up and we are way over cap ( like gagne situation) and we have to trade our players no junk just for cap space?

I think that most fans are aware that there is a salary Cap and the issues that come with it. Pittsburgh offered Staal a very good deal.
