For fun, I went to the stats for that year. Mez played 28 poops per game , the same as Carle, Timmonen, Coburn and Pronger. O'Donnell played 21 per game.
Mez was the top scorer with 8 goals and second in points with 42.
Mes was plus 30, O'Donnell was plus 8.
Mez had 189 hits, tops on the team.
O'Donnell was his partner for a good part of the season but not all.
Your turn.

Any chance to bring back Eric Wellwood instead of putting useless Knuble in the lineup?

I am not aware of any poops taken during any time on the ice in Mez's career. Please elaborate and don't stop the party.

I for one hope so.
I think having speed helps them more then what they get with Knuble,
But I could see the coach going with Knuble too.

No matter what any of us think, Mez will start on the 3rd pair when he returns, although he will most likely get some time on the 2nd pp unit. After being out most of the season, he is going to be both rusty and not in game shape when he returns.

Even when he is healthy, if the Flyers have a lead in late in the 3rd, you are mostly going to see Coburn-Grossmann and Timonen-Schenn get nearly all the ice time. If they are trailing though you might see them go with Coburn-Timonen and Gus-Mezaros to try and generate offense.

Either way one thing is certainly true: they will be much better with Mez in and Gervais out!!

Nothing is there that I'm not already aware of. It supports both Bill and my opinion. Look at the Season Meszaros had as the 5th defenseman paired with O'Donnell.
Meszaros plays on the PP, and O'Donnell doesn't. Meszaros also played slightly more on the PK.

And there was a nice award that Meszaros won that year. The Barry Ashbee award.

Knuble is not useless. And I would hope that Knuble is in the lineup instead of Wellwood.

You just basically proved MJL and Bill's point. Excellent job of research.

It's those darn high fiber snack bars he snacks on before the games and between the periods.

I think there is. He's a veteran player who can still play well situation-ally. There's bound to be injuries.

Knuble is a class act and I'm glad they picked him up. However having him and Fedotenko on the same line scares me because neither one has any speed at all. IF the other 2 players on the line are Fedotenko and Rinaldo, I would rather see Wellwood in that spot.

For some players shifts might as well be poops. Think Gervais...
