Shouldn't every GM know about the rules surrounding a offersheet??... - Fruitcakenipple
A gm isn't going to know every rule, especially when the new CBA is still being written. As i said earlier, if im a GM i contact the league before any transaction to get their interpretation of what i am doing. |

Oooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh good one.
Do you think I'll disagree? Anyone on this board (you included) could finish in the basement every year and collect 1st overall picks, like the Oilers have done. If you're trying to ruffle Oiler fan's feathers, you'll fail... Our GM has proved NOTHING.
But AGAIN, my original point stands... Feaster is an idiot, who is very fortunate to have the job that he does... He has been given his share of breaks. |

and RFA doesn't need to if he resigns with his own team, or if he is traded to another team. However an offer sheet is treated like a UFA transaction in which the rule is a player must be placed on waivers. - sens rock

Jesus.. the League didn't even know ROR played after the lockout ended.. |

Maybe he will take Comeau back if Calgary wises up and waives him - FLflames34
Has he been that bad for you guys? |

O'Reilly is a pending RFA not UFA after this deal. The whole poison pill in the deal is the second year because it requires Colorado to qualify him at 6.5M (which is an overpayment he may, believe it or not, actually be worth)
As to Feaster, i tend to believe his interpretation of how it went down but I'm not accepting it as an excuse. Had this actually happened it would be a fireable offense; if Tallon can be fired for screwing up a few qualifying offers this pales in comparison. It's too bad because I was pretty much on board with it before learning of the waiver thing. That being said, I think part of the screw up rests with O'Reilly's agent as well - he should have clarified that part of the CBA as well and accordingly refused to let him play those two games in Russia.
Bottom line, when you're working off a half-complete CBA with a rule that had already screwed multiple teams over in previous years, there's no excuse for not checking with the league first. |

Didn't he win a cup? And then worked back into his 2nd chance, first as an asst gm for D Sutt.
What luck. |

If Feaster is getting grilled for this. .. then so to should the 4 GMs who were rejected. I would like to know if one was Nonis... I'm sure other Leafs fans would too! |

This is why part of the blame rests with ROR and or his agent...the agent should have known that playing in Russia after the season started would (frank) up his ability to get offer sheets.
For that matter I think Sherman (frank)ed up as well, if he had known ROR couldn't get offer sheets it would have given him a lot more leverage |

He's pretty terrible. The only thing he does adequately is the penalty kill. Otherwise, an AHLer getting entirely too much playing time. |

the point is if feaster calls the league, they are going to look into it and give him an answer to which they tell feaster he would have to go through waivers before joining the team. The fact that that conversation didn't happen and feaster assumed on his own interpretation of the memorandum of understanding is why he is getting so much heat, and deservedly so. |

95% of the Tampa Cup team was assembled by Dudley, not Feaster, he deserves less credit for it than, say, Burke does for the Anaheim team (who had a similar situation).
Also the way Calgary found a new GM was nonsense, hired him as an AGM, then didn't even pretend to look for any other candidates.
I have actually been a semi-apologist for Feaster but these are facts. |

in an era where the position of "capologist" is an actual job, why doesn't every team have one?
why doesn't every gm, have an aide that knows the cba (and new MoU) backwards and forwards. seriously! |

What 4 other teams? I initially heard that Vancouver also sent an offer sheet but ROR chose Calgary but then that rumor was clarified that they considered it but didn't. |
