I think this game shows that Hodgson and Pommer can play well together without Vanek. Time to set up some new lines to even out the scoring and get other people going.

Great point!
Rolston should spread out the scoring, or at least try to! |

Great game. Not to upset about them winning because they have been playing pretty good hockey. Being able to win and score without Vanek is good to see and Miller playing at such a high level.
Gerbe has gone from a AHL guy in my books to a guy that deserves a roster spot. Glad to see him turn it around after such a terrible start to the season. |

Yeah, I would also put Foligno with Gerbe and Ennis and Stafford with Vanek and Grigo aside from what I had above. Gives him 2 goal scoring vets. I think playing with Vanek would get Grigo happy and Stafford going. |

foligno looked good, maybe keeping him with pommer will help with his motivation
if vanek can't get staff going, nothing will

I'm sorry but Ott should be on no one's first line. I like the idea of spreading the scoring around but one game doesn't warrant moving Vanek to the second line and leaving Ennis with stafford.

Theres plenty of possibilities for the lineup. I dont look at this as a "top line", "second line", "third line". We dont have nearly enough depth to make our team that way.
As the Devils and Kings showed in last years playoffs. You should have 3 lines that are going to score and 1 line that can play defense and provide energy, as well as chip some goals in.
The key to shifting our lineup, and going towards 3 lines that can score and 1 defensive/energy line is to create pairings.
I've chose Hodgson-Pommer, Vanek-Grigo, and Ennis-Gerbe. Sure, the other wingers you can interchange and I think the lines will still look good. Vanek and Ennis are players that I think can play on anybodys line and produce. I dont think Hodgson could produce away from Vanek or Pommer, he needs 1 of them. |

Those would be my lines also... You have to have a bastard with Ennis and Gerbe if you are to keep those two together. That 4th line could be a 10 to 12 minute line also. With Kaleta getting extra PK time of course. |

When Gerbe gets the fur coat, I wonder if it drags on the floor. He admitted he's 5'4".

I've talked to multiple families who have kids with disabilities who have interacted with the sabres and they **always** praise gerbe. They say he stays the longest, interacts with the kids the most, and doesn't act superior. |

Not that I mind, but does anyone else get a kick out of how Pommer takes the same shot to just about the same place every time he is in a shootout? I mean, if I am an opposing goalie, I am cheating to that side of the net! It is virtually exactly the same thing every time, yet he scores more often than not. It's kind of funny, but it really should never happen as much as it does.
On a side note, fun game today. Getting a little swagger never hurt anyone. Too early to know if it means anything yet, but hey.....at least we're not falling asleep during the games lately. Get a win tomorrow and it will be time to really start looking at things a little differently. |

Yes the passion was there. Gotta love Kaleta and Ott. Gerbe too. They are finally making use of him. And the way he hit that guy late. Too awesome! |

LOVE the idea of Vanek-Grigorenko-Stafford
1) Vanek is gonna produce no matter who he's with
2) Grigorenko needs to play with guys that put the puck in the net
3) Stafford really hasn't been that bad, he's getting plenty of shots on goal... Having Vanek on his line will create more room to get better shots and have a great guy by the net for rebounds
I think this could finally get us three lines that score consistently
And if stafford takes off, then he'll probably be tradable for something decent
I think everyone would like to see that |
