You guys wanting to trade the Wayne Train are Zolnierczyked in the head

No way Simmonds should be part of any trade convos.

- Lexington Flyer

The problem is that Bobby Ryan has been elevated to star player status on this board by many. Instead of just being what he actually is, which is a good player and a good goal scorer. Not to mention that he lived in Cherry Hill so that automatically means that he will one day be a Flyer.

i'd trade simmonds for him since ryan is the better player
- 2Real

They are basically the same this season and Simmonds brings more of a physical presence.

Simmonds
Age: 24
4th in team scoring
Goals: 9
Assists: 8
+/- : 0
PIMS: 46

Ryan
Age: 25
4th in team scoring
Goals: 5
Assists: 10
+/-: +1
PIMS: 2

Like MJL has stated he has been elevated to star status by some people here and I don't see it. If you say to me that Simmonds would be part of a deal to bring a signed and extended Corey Perry that is a different story to me but not for Ryan.

And right now, the way Simmonds is playing, there isn't much difference between the two players. But where the big difference is, is each players contract situation. Simmonds is signed for the next 6 year at 3.975M. Ryan has 2 more Season left at 5.1M. I thought when Holmgren first signed Simmonds to that deal that it was too much money and too long. Now it's looking like a pretty shrewd deal if his level of play remains where it is.

Simmonds current rate of production projected over an 82 game Season would translate to 37 goals and 33 assists for 70 points. I'd love to know why we should trade him for Bobby Ryan. Who in a couple of years, is going to be a UFA and looking for a new deal and a raise. When Simmonds is signed to a very friendly Cap number for the next 6 Seasons after this one.

Translation is that some just want to trade for the name in bright lights!

I think the Flyers should look at adding some defensive help before going after Ryan but thats just me.

I'm having concerns over Mez at this point. Not sure how that shoulder is going to hold up even when he is given the green light for contact. Won't get a good read on it until he plays in a game at full speed.

You're right, need to see him play. That's why I'm not concerned about it yet. So many other ways the Flyers can better themselves without adding a single player.

Yup. The team could be better in its own end at times. They give the puck away too many times and leave people wide open in front or down the middle of the ice.

Gervais was horrendous today and it doesnt matter who his partner is b/c they get left out to dry.

I believe that is correct. It wasn't a very hard hit that he got injured on. He had surgery on that same shoulder back in 09.

I'm not going to focus on any one player. Gervais is what he is. 4 times in the first period the Flyers gave up point blank chances right in front of the net. If the Flyers had been playing a top team today, they would've gotten throttled.

I have to say that I didn't expect him to be sidelined this long. The fact that he was skating on Monday is a good sign but he still isn't cleared for contact.

I'm worried his shoulder won't hold up even when he gets back.

I agree. Too many breakdowns and guys standing alone in front of the net with high quality chances.

Not to single out Gervais but hes a liability out on the ice every shift (so it seems).

All you have to do is go back and watch the save highlights from the game. Flyers coverage is just horrendous for the most part. I really think if the Flyers played a better team game, with more support and coverage. A player like Gervais may not look so bad.

I'm not seeing any signs whatsoever of it getting better. And it was another slow start today.

That could be but Gervais has turned the puck over a ton lately. He sometimes piches in at the wrong time and gives the opposition a man advantage heading the other way.

I don't like to base a player off +/- but he is dead last on the team.

Just seems the opposition has great scoring chances when he is on the ice during his shift.

Everyone could be much better defensively no question but he seems to be out of position, piching and missing, and turning it over more often than not.

I'm not trying to say that Gervais hasn't made his share of mistakes. All I'm saying is that better support would mean less opportunity for those mistakes. He's a 6th defenseman for a reason.

Agreed. The Flyers need to be better all around in their own end.

I'm not in on that trade. Simmonds has been great here and seems to be only getting better.
