i've definitely thought that before...i dunno if he'll ever be that proficient of a pure goal scorer, but i can see the similarities

What would you kind Flyers fans think of a Couturier swap with Toronto?

Gardiner for Couturier ala Schenn for JVR?

- Blazed

Schenn, one of the leading hitters in the NHL.

Hopefully JVR stays healthy and keeps producing for the Leafs, but I'm fine with the trade.

How can you possibly label JVR a bust right now?
- MJL

When they traded him, you could label him a bust.

I can understand wanting to hang on to Coots nod out but I don't think it's bad enough to be called trolling. I mean JVR has as much or more potential as Couturier (albeit more chances to show it) and Gardiner has endless more potential than Schenn so I didn't think it completely out of the park.

In my opinion, that would not be accurate.

It's not like Patrick Kane is going to win the Hart trophy this year. No big deal, just an overrated trophy, to go along with his Stanley cup ring.

In terms of an overall player, JVR's potential is not equal to Couturier's. It seems as though you are selling Couturier short.
- MJL

I'm not selling Couturier short I understand the love. Still no garunteed he will ever be a number 1C. No point discussing any further as he clearly seems untouchable. However how unrealistic is it to think in his prime he is a Ryan Kesler. Excellent Selke candidate 2nd line center.

Gardiner will be a 25 min a night top pairing so it seemed like a good start, sorry Flyers faithful.

Patrick Kane is immaterial. He had been drafted already when the Flyers turn to pick came up.

It's happened to other teams, too.

How about Gus for Kadri? I mean, JVR has as much or more potential as Kadri (albeit more chances to show it) and Gus has endless more potential than Schenn.

i'm just breaking balls man

i wouldn't agree with either statement you made about potential, however. unless you only mean "goal scoring potential"

Patrik Stefan was a bust. Jason Bonsignore was a bust. James van Riemsdyk was injury-prone and maddeningly inconsistent but not a bust.

I'm OK to watch this trade play out. Too early to determine whether either will reach their ceiling.

Doesn't need to be a #1 Center. It's just not a good deal for the Flyers. Gardiner is a nice young puck mover. Don't know that he'll be a top pair D man though.

No guarantee that Gardiner will be a 25 minute a night top pair guy, either. I mean, right now, he's in the AHL.

Couturier is playing in the NHL and putting up some near elite level defensive play. Just looking at his zone start/end numbers is staggering-starts around 40% of his shifts in the defensive end and ends 60%+ in the other team's zone. That's elite level work.

I'm thinking more of Paul Staal who works behind the counter at CVS.

Its an interesting thought, I would assume there would be more involved in your scenerio besides just those two.
