and urs i guess tooo..otherwise why would u use them as an example to show how u will be able to hold on to ur untouchables and still be a contender under the cap.
- derm10

because MON fans are claiming that EDM won't be able too. Don't see how that's remotely related though.

What is your explaination?? Because there is one. tell me.
- soad_live

Explain what? Why the Oilers are better than last year but not the best team in the league?

That's fairly self explanatory.

I'll agree with this. Guy like Gionta would be a nice fit in edm. I stated this a few week back and got mixed responses, trade Yaks for the Schenn boys. I know Yaks in great. But Schenn is as well and is gritty. L Schenn adds a young top 4 d.
- Bieksa#3

I didn't think LSchenn was very good in TO...but looking at his stat line this year. I think he found a place to play.

20 min a game, 6 points, 80 hits, +5, 44 shots blocked.

Good on him. Is he (and his brother) worth Yak? yeah probably...I think the Oil add some, maybe one of those 2nd round picks that are worth more in a deep draft year (like Clouts says).

Smid has only been so-so this year. Ya he blocks a lot of shots, but he is still on the ice for a lot of goals against. I would give him a C+ so far this year.
- Iggysbff

Agree that Smid is not a solid this year as last, but I also think Petry isn't playing as well, and that is generally his partner. So, they both need to be better.

Trade anyone on your top 6. Your team is not balanced. You need a number one goaltender. You need a true number one defenseman and you need more grit on the top 6.

You need good veterans to teach young guns how to become veterans.

You won't adress your needs with Paajarvi or other prospects.

Get use to it or suck for 5 years. Oilers need to be good now because they will not afford to sign all your top six in 2-3 years.

- soad_live

I thought you were finally sounding reasonable...then your last sentence happened. This has been debunked many, many times

Richard, you continually write in your blogs that the Oilers need to acquire a power forward who can immediately step into the Top 6. The need for a winger who has size and physicality but can also bring goal scoring, these guys are hard to come by and they rarely come cheap. You always start by saying player X,Y,Z are untouchable and proceed to throw out mediocre deals trying to acquire top talent. I understand improving your team without giving up talent, but in certain cases it is necessary.
- fudd1689

Mike Richards....and I think we can easily use him as an example...was traded for: 3rd line winger, good prospect, 3rd round pick. Not as much as you think when you target what the Oilers need.

I agree, but the names Clouts has been throwing out there are better than Richards. He made the case for Ovi and Weber and proceeded to mention average names.

That's debatable, but i don't see a single young gun being as defensively responsible as Galchenyuk. That being said, are you the kind of guy that say Yakupov is better than Galchenyuk?

If so, no nedd to argue here because that will never be the case.

- soad_live

Didn't you say you were leaving? I am wondering when that happens so we don't have to talk about your team in the Oilers threads.
